## What it does

The skill walks an advisor through review prep step by step. First it gathers context: the client and household profile from the CRM, the Investment Policy Statement with objectives and tolerance bands, an account inventory with custodians and market values, recent life events, notes from the last meeting and financial plan status. All of it lands in a one-page summary meant to be read in five minutes.

Then come the numbers for the period: returns per account and for the household, comparison against the IPS benchmark, the two or three largest contributors and detractors, fees in dollars and as a share of AUM, income received and withdrawals. The skill turns that into a three-to-five sentence summary you can use as a talking point.

A separate block covers drift: current asset class weights against targets, flags where a band is breached, and a table of target, current, drift and tolerance status. When drift is out of band, it prepares a rebalancing recommendation with the estimated tax impact for taxable accounts. Talking points are grouped by theme: market commentary tied to what the client actually holds, rebalancing, upcoming dates such as RMDs and vesting, follow-up on prior action items and the financial implications of life events. The skill does not redo the rebalancing math itself and points to a separate skill for that methodology.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JoelLewis/finance_skills --skill client-review-prep -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/client-review-prep/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JoelLewis/finance_skills --skill client-review-prep -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JoelLewis/finance_skills --skill client-review-prep -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JoelLewis/finance_skills client-review-prep
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JoelLewis/finance_skills --skill client-review-prep -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JoelLewis/finance_skills --path plugins/advisory-practice/skills/client-review-prep
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JoelLewis/finance_skills --skill client-review-prep -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JoelLewis/finance_skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/advisory-practice/skills/client-review-prep/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull client context from CRM, IPS and notes into one summary
- compare period returns against the IPS benchmark
- flag asset classes that drifted past their tolerance band
- write talking points tied to this portfolio instead of generic market talk
- check whether last meeting's action items were completed

## Example prompts
- Prepare a review package for my client meeting next week
- Show allocation drift and estimate the tax impact of rebalancing
- Build the meeting agenda and talking points around the client's recent life events

# Client Review Preparation

## Core Concepts

### Client Context Assembly

The foundation of review preparation is assembling everything the advisor needs to know about the client before the meeting. This context package draws from multiple systems and should be gathered systematically rather than ad hoc.

**Data to assemble:**

1. **Client profile and household** -- pull from CRM: names, ages, employment status, retirement dates, household members, service tier, assigned advisor, communication preferences
2. **Investment Policy Statement (IPS)** -- the governing document for the relationship: stated objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, return targets, asset allocation targets with tolerance bands, investment restrictions, benchmark selections, liquidity constraints
3. **Account inventory** -- all accounts in the household: account types (taxable, IRA, Roth, trust, etc.), custodians, current market values, cash positions, cost basis summary
4. **Recent life events** -- any changes since the last review: job change, retirement, marriage, divorce, inheritance, birth of child, health event, home purchase or sale, business sale. These come from CRM notes, advisor logs, and financial planning system updates.
5. **Prior meeting notes** -- what was discussed at the last review, what action items were assigned, which items were completed. Unresolved items carry forward to the agenda.
