## What it does

The skill gives an agent CLI access to Unreal Engine traces on Windows. It can find and validate `UnrealInsights.exe`, set a current `.utrace`, browse the Trace Store, run one-shot or continuous captures, and open a trace while leaving the Unreal Insights GUI running.

JSON output covers capture, export, live control, and analysis workflows. The skill exports thread data, timer statistics, and counter values, supports response-file batches, and produces summaries with `GameThread`, `RenderThread`, and `RHIThread` hotspots, counter peaks, and export diagnostics.

Windows and Unreal Engine tools with `UnrealInsights.exe` are required. The skill was verified with UE 5.5, while headless exporter handling includes UE 5.3-style command parsing where possible. Check the executable paths before using it: live commands require `UNREALINSIGHTS_LIVE_EXEC` or `--backend-command`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HKUDS/CLI-Anything --skill cli-anything-unrealinsights -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HKUDS/CLI-Anything --skill cli-anything-unrealinsights -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HKUDS/CLI-Anything --skill cli-anything-unrealinsights -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install HKUDS/CLI-Anything cli-anything-unrealinsights
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HKUDS/CLI-Anything --skill cli-anything-unrealinsights -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/HKUDS/CLI-Anything --path skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cli-anything-unrealinsights/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add HKUDS/CLI-Anything --skill cli-anything-unrealinsights -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- capture a trace from an Unreal project
- inspect files in the Trace Store
- keep Unreal Insights open on a selected trace
- export timing and counter data
- summarize thread hotspots and export results

## Example prompts
- Run a JSON trace capture for `D:\Projects\MyGame\MyGame.uproject` with `cli-anything-unrealinsights` and save it as `D:\captures\boot.utrace`.
- Find the latest Trace Store trace with `cli-anything-unrealinsights --json store latest --set-current`, then open it in Unreal Insights.
- Export timer data and counter values from `D:\captures\session.utrace` to `D:\out\stats.csv` and `D:\out\counter_values.csv` with JSON output.

# cli-anything-unrealinsights

Use this CLI when you need agent-friendly access to Unreal Insights trace capture
and exporter workflows on Windows.

## Prerequisites

- Windows
- Unreal Engine tools installed with `UnrealInsights.exe`
- Verified with UE 5.5; headless timing exporters include compatibility handling
  for UE 5.3-style command parsing where possible
- Optional explicit env vars:
  - `UNREALINSIGHTS_EXE`
  - `UNREAL_TRACE_SERVER_EXE`
  - `UNREALINSIGHTS_TRACE`

## Core Commands

### Backend discovery

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json backend info
```

To use a source-built engine's matching `UnrealInsights.exe`:

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json backend ensure-insights `
  --engine-root 'D:\code\D5\d5render-ue5_3'
```

This first looks for `Engine\Binaries\Win64\UnrealInsights.exe` under the
specified engine root, then builds it with that engine's `Build.bat` if needed.

### Trace session state

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights trace set D:\captures\session.utrace
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json trace info
```

### Trace Store discovery

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json store info
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json store list --live-only
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json store latest --set-current
```

### Capture orchestration

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json capture run `
  --project 'D:\Projects\MyGame\MyGame.uproject' `
  --engine-root 'D:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.5' `
  --output-trace D:\captures\boot.utrace `
  --channels "default,bookmark" `
  --exec-cmd "Trace.Bookmark BootStart" `
  --wait --timeout 300
```

You can also keep using the explicit form:

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json capture run `
  'D:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.5\Engine\Binaries\Win64\UnrealEditor.exe' `
  --target-arg 'D:\Projects\MyGame\MyGame.uproject'
```

### Continuous capture session control

```powershell
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json capture start `
  --project 'D:\Projects\MyGame\MyGame.uproject' `
  --engine-root 'D:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.5' `
  --output-trace D:\captures\live_session.utrace
cli-anything-unrealinsights --json capture status
