## What it does

The skill activates when you ask for Swift, SwiftUI or UIKit work on Clerk, or when the agent spots a native project through `.xcodeproj`, `.xcworkspace` or `Package.swift`. Expo and React Native projects are out of scope — those route to the general setup skill.

Setup comes first. With no `clerk-ios` package, no `Clerk.configure` call and no chosen Clerk application, the skill points you at the iOS setup prompt, which runs the Clerk CLI to pick an application, install the SDK, configure capabilities, register the native app and hand back the publishable key. It won't ask you to paste a key. If the CLI can't handle the project, the manual quickstart is the fallback. After that the agent asks for a flow type, `prebuilt` or `custom`, and loads exactly one reference instead of blending both.

You need Xcode and the ClerkKit Swift package. An existing `Clerk.configure` call and custom key loading from a plist or build setting stay as they are — the skill adds only what the chosen flow is missing. To inspect the setup without touching code, run `npx -y clerk@latest doctor`; it reports SDK linkage, capabilities, native registration and the Apple connection.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add clerk/skills --skill clerk-swift -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/clerk-swift/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add clerk/skills --skill clerk-swift -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add clerk/skills --skill clerk-swift -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install clerk/skills clerk-swift
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add clerk/skills --skill clerk-swift -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/clerk/skills --path skills/clerk-swift
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add clerk/skills --skill clerk-swift -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/clerk/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/clerk-swift/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add a sign-in screen to a native iOS app
- wire up ClerkKitUI AuthView and UserButton
- write a custom ClerkKit auth flow
- add Sign in with Apple to a Swift project
- check SDK linkage and capabilities without editing code

## Example prompts
- Add Clerk sign-in to my SwiftUI app, prebuilt flow
- Build a custom ClerkKit auth flow with multi-step screens
- Check the Clerk setup in this project with doctor

# Clerk Swift (Native iOS and macOS)

This skill builds Clerk authentication UI in native Swift projects: prebuilt ClerkKitUI views or custom flows on ClerkKit. Setup (SDK, capabilities, native registration, and Clerk initialization) comes first and has its own workflow.

## Activation Rules

Activate this skill when either condition is true:
- The user explicitly asks for Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, or native iOS or macOS Clerk implementation.
- The project appears to be native Swift (for example `.xcodeproj`, `.xcworkspace`, `Package.swift`, Swift targets).

Do not activate this skill when either condition is true:
- The project is Expo.
- The project is React Native.

If Expo/React Native signals are present, route to the general setup skill instead of this one.

## Set up Clerk first

If Clerk isn't set up yet (no `clerk-ios` package, no `Clerk.configure` call, or no Clerk application chosen), follow the [iOS setup prompt](https://clerk.com/docs/ios/getting-started/quickstart.md) before any UI work. It uses the Clerk CLI to choose a Clerk application, install the SDK, configure capabilities, register the native app, and hand off the remaining Swift integration. The CLI also supplies the publishable key, so don't ask the user to paste one.

If the CLI can't set up the project (for example, Xcode isn't available or the project isn't supported), follow the [manual iOS quickstart](https://clerk.com/docs/ios/getting-started/quickstart.md?manual=1) instead.

If the user already asked for sign-in UI, such as a custom flow, continue here once setup's build check passes. Otherwise, return to this skill when the user wants sign-in UI added or changed.

## What Do You Need?

| Task | Reference |
|------|-----------|
| Prebuilt AuthView / UserButton (fastest) | references/prebuilt.md |
| Custom API-driven auth flows (full control) | references/custom.md |

## Quick Start

| Step | Action |
|------|--------|
| 1 | Confirm the project is native Swift and not Expo/React Native |
| 2 | If Clerk isn't set up, follow the iOS setup prompt first (see above) |
| 3 | Determine the flow type (`prebuilt` or `custom`); ask if it's undecided, then load the matching reference |
| 4 | Check the prerequisites the selected flow needs, such as a package product or capability, and make only the targeted changes that are missing |
| 5 | Implement the flow by following the selected reference |
