## What it does

The skill hands your agent a rulebook for software design. It ships 23 rules across three sections: SOLID principles, core principles like DRY, KISS and YAGNI, and design patterns — factory, strategy, repository, decorator, observer, adapter, facade, dependency injection. Four more sections are marked as planned: code organization, naming, functions, comments.

Rules carry priority prefixes: `solid-`, `core-`, `pattern-`, `org-`, `name-`, `func-`, `doc-`. Ask for an architecture review and it reports findings line by line as `file:line - [principle] description`. A class that validates, persists and sends notifications at once gets tagged `solid-srp`.

The rules are language-agnostic, though the examples are TypeScript. One thing to know before installing: four of the seven categories are still unwritten, so don't expect detailed rule files on naming or comments. Worth it if you want an architecture checker on call rather than a one-off opinion.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --skill clean-code-principles -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/clean-code-principles/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/clean-code-principles/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --skill clean-code-principles -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/clean-code-principles/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --skill clean-code-principles -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/clean-code-principles/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install AsyrafHussin/agent-skills clean-code-principles
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/clean-code-principles/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --skill clean-code-principles -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --path skills/clean-code-principles
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/clean-code-principles/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AsyrafHussin/agent-skills --skill clean-code-principles -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- check a class for a single responsibility
- spot duplicated validation across modules
- pick a pattern instead of reaching for inheritance
- map out architecture before a large refactor
- explain to the team why depending on an abstraction beats a concrete class

## Example prompts
- review the orders module architecture against SOLID
- find duplication in the services folder
- which pattern fits creating different report types

# Clean Code Principles

Fundamental software design principles, SOLID, design patterns, and clean code practices. Language-agnostic guidelines for writing maintainable, scalable software.

## When to Apply

Reference these guidelines when:
- Designing new features or systems
- Reviewing code architecture
- Refactoring existing code
- Discussing design decisions
- Improving code quality

## Rule Categories by Priority

| Priority | Category | Impact | Prefix |
|----------|----------|--------|--------|
| 1 | SOLID Principles | CRITICAL | `solid-` |
| 2 | Core Principles | CRITICAL | `core-` |
| 3 | Design Patterns | HIGH | `pattern-` |
| 4 | Code Organization | HIGH | `org-` |
| 5 | Naming & Readability | MEDIUM | `name-` |
| 6 | Functions & Methods | MEDIUM | `func-` |
| 7 | Comments & Documentation | LOW | `doc-` |

## Quick Reference

### 1. SOLID Principles (CRITICAL)

- `solid-srp` - Single Responsibility Principle
- `solid-ocp` - Open/Closed Principle
- `solid-lsp` - Liskov Substitution Principle
- `solid-isp` - Interface Segregation Principle
- `solid-dip` - Dependency Inversion Principle

### 2. Core Principles (CRITICAL)
