# claude-switch-models-setup

Sets up isolated profiles to run multiple providers like Kimi, DeepSeek, and Anthropic in separate terminal windows. It stops configuration drift while sharing common skills and hooks.

## What it does

The skill organizes an isolated profile setup inside `~/.claude-profiles/<name>/`. Each profile keeps its own `.claude.json` state file for provider credentials and history across Kimi, DeepSeek, MiniMax, GLM, StepFun, or Anthropic. Common directories for skills, projects, hooks, and agents link back to `~/.claude/` through symlinks.

Config drift is handled by `sync-profile-settings.py` running as a SessionStart hook. It copies parameters from the default `settings.json` across all profiles, while preserving provider-specific model identity keys and environment variables. The `claude-plugins-sync.py` script manages plugin marketplaces, keeping an independent `known_marketplaces.json` for each profile because symlinks break its path resolution.

Atomic writes and backups protect state files during updates. If the main configuration is corrupted, convergence halts without wiping profile settings. You must launch each terminal using `CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR` to keep provider sessions strictly separated.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill claude-switch-models-setup -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill claude-switch-models-setup -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill claude-switch-models-setup -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daymade/claude-code-skills claude-switch-models-setup
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill claude-switch-models-setup -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills --path daymade-claude-code/claude-switch-models-setup
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daymade/claude-code-skills --skill claude-switch-models-setup -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daymade/claude-code-skills/tree/HEAD/daymade-claude-code/claude-switch-models-setup/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run separate Claude Code sessions for multiple model providers
- prevent configuration and hook drift across profiles
- isolate session history and credentials per provider
- share installed skills and agents without manual duplication

## Example prompts
- Configure isolated Claude Code profiles for Kimi and DeepSeek with shared skills.
- Audit profile settings drift across `~/.claude-profiles` using `sync-profile-settings.py --check`.
- Sync enabled plugins and SessionStart hooks from the main profile to all third-party setups.

# Claude Code Profiles and Local Skill Activation

## Overview

This skill creates an isolated-but-shared profile system for Claude Code CLI. Each profile gets its own `.claude.json` state file (provider credentials and session history) while sharing skills, projects, hook scripts, agents, and installed plugin state across all profiles — and converging each profile's `settings.json` (hook registration, marketplaces, env feature flags, permissions, preferences) plus the **behavior slice of its `.claude.json`** (e.g. `workflowSizeGuideline`) from the default profile, so the only intended difference between profiles is the model/provider.

The result: you can open one terminal with Kimi, another with DeepSeek, another with Anthropic — each running as a fully independent Claude Code process, without configuration bleed.

For reducing fixed startup context from preloaded MCP tool schemas, read
[references/mcp-startup-context.md](references/mcp-startup-context.md). It owns
same-mode measurement, active-profile discovery, provider compatibility checks,
reversible server suppression, and fresh-process acceptance.

## How It Works

- `CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR` tells Claude Code CLI which directory to use as its config root.
- Each profile lives in `~/.claude-profiles/<name>/` with an isolated `.claude.json`.
- Content directories (`skills/`, `projects/`, `hooks/`, `agents/`, `settings/`) are symlinked back to the main `~/.claude/` directory so you only maintain one copy. Note this shares hook **scripts**, not hook **registration** — registration lives in each profile's own `settings.json` (next bullet).
