## What it does

The skill covers Svelte 5’s Runes API: `$state` for reactive state, `$derived` for computed values, `$effect` for side effects, and `$props` for component props. Its examples also show `$bindable`, conditional rendering, and keyed lists.

For SvelteKit, it describes route structure and data-loading functions. Svelte compiles components to JavaScript; SvelteKit supports SSR, SSG, and SPA. The skill provides guidance rather than creating a project for you. Its setup examples use `npm create svelte@latest` or `npm create vite@latest`.

This skill is marked as unavailable for manual invocation and disabled for model invocation, so it has no standalone command trigger. In Claude Code, installation uses `npx skills add`; the skill file goes to `~/.claude/skills/svelte/SKILL.md`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill svelte -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/svelte/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/svelte/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill svelte -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/svelte/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill svelte -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/svelte/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills svelte
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/svelte/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill svelte -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/javascript/frameworks/svelte
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/svelte/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill svelte -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills/tree/HEAD/toolchains/javascript/frameworks/svelte/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- manage reactive component state with `$state`
- derive values from state using `$derived`
- define component props with `$props`
- bind a child input to parent state with `$bindable`
- organize SvelteKit routes and data loading

## Example prompts
- Show me how to use `$state` for a counter and `$derived` for its doubled value.
- Build a Svelte 5 search component with two-way binding through `$bindable`.
- Suggest a SvelteKit route structure for a home page and a blog with data loading.

# Svelte 5 - Compiler-First Reactive Framework

## Overview

Svelte is a **compiler-based** reactive UI framework that shifts work from runtime to build time. Unlike React/Vue, Svelte compiles components to highly optimized vanilla JavaScript with minimal overhead. **Svelte 5** introduces Runes API for explicit, fine-grained reactivity.

**Key Features**:
- **Runes API**: $state, $derived, $effect for explicit reactivity
- **Zero runtime overhead**: Compiles to vanilla JS
- **Built-in state management**: No external libraries needed
- **SvelteKit**: Full-stack framework with SSR/SSG/SPA
- **Write less code**: Simple, readable component syntax
- **Exceptional performance**: Small bundles, fast runtime

**Installation**:
```bash
# Create new SvelteKit project
npm create svelte@latest my-app
cd my-app
npm install
npm run dev
# Or Svelte only (no SvelteKit)
npm create vite@latest my-app -- --template svelte-ts
```

## Svelte 5 Runes API (Modern Approach)

### State Management with $state

```svelte
<script lang="ts">
  // Reactive state - automatically tracks changes
  let count = $state(0);
  let user = $state({ name: 'Alice', age: 30 });
  // Arrays and objects are deeply reactive
  let todos = $state<Todo[]>([]);
  function addTodo(text: string) {
    todos.push({ id: Date.now(), text, done: false });
    // No need for todos = [...todos] like React!
  }
  function increment() {
    count++; // Triggers reactivity
  }
</script>
<button onclick={increment}>
  Clicked {count} times
</button>
```

### Computed Values with $derived

```svelte
<script lang="ts">
  let firstName = $state('John');
  let lastName = $state('Doe');
  // Automatically updates when dependencies change
  let fullName = $derived(`${firstName} ${lastName}`);
  let greeting = $derived(`Hello, ${fullName}`);
  // Complex derivations
  let items = $state([1, 2, 3, 4, 5]);
  let total = $derived(items.reduce((sum, n) => sum + n, 0));
  let average = $derived(total / items.length);
</script>
<p>{greeting}</p>
<p>Average: {average.toFixed(2)}</p>
```
