Routes your agent through Kotlin, Compose, Hilt and Room 3 work on Android projects without inventing APIs.

## What it does

The skill gives the agent a route through an Android codebase: read `settings.gradle.kts`, `gradle/libs.versions.toml` and the `app` module build file first, copy from `assets/` only after that. Inside there is a quick-reference table plus reference files on MVVM layers and DI, the Retrofit/OkHttp network stack, DataStore, modularization, stack migrations, Gradle setup and CI/CD.

Context loads in a ladder. `SKILL.md` handles routing, then short `references/*-quick.md` files, then one section of the full reference. Pulling the whole multi-thousand-line file or `INDEX-sections.md` is explicitly forbidden, so the window stays clean.

You need JDK 17+ and Android Studio with the Android SDK installed, plus network access for Gradle dependency downloads. Version pins in the templates follow the repo catalog, and the skill tells you to align AGP, Kotlin and KSP with your own project before applying upgrades — skip that and the build breaks. After changes to modules, DI, navigation or the Room schema it asks for `./gradlew help` followed by `:app:assembleDebug` with your real module name. Play upload, tracks, rollout and `versionCode` sit outside the skill.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Drjacky/claude-android-ninja --skill claude-android-ninja -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/claude-android-ninja/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/claude-android-ninja/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Drjacky/claude-android-ninja --skill claude-android-ninja -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/claude-android-ninja/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Drjacky/claude-android-ninja --skill claude-android-ninja -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/claude-android-ninja/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Drjacky/claude-android-ninja claude-android-ninja
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/claude-android-ninja/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Drjacky/claude-android-ninja --skill claude-android-ninja -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Drjacky/claude-android-ninja
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/claude-android-ninja/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Drjacky/claude-android-ninja --skill claude-android-ninja -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Drjacky/claude-android-ninja/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- bootstrap a new Kotlin and Compose project
- migrate an app to API 37 and a new targetSdk
- build a Compose screen together with its ViewModel
- wire Room 3 with KSP and Flow DAOs
- align AGP, Kotlin and KSP versions in the catalog

## Example prompts
- Create a new module with a Compose screen and ViewModel using MVVM
- Migrate the project to targetSdk 37 and verify the build
- Add Room 3 with a suspend DAO and RemoteMediator for offline sync

# Android Kotlin Compose Development

**Context ladder (smaller load first; full references stay complete):**

1. This file (`SKILL.md`) - routing, stop rules, examples.
2. `references/*-quick.md` when listed below - required/forbidden + section links (~40 lines).
3. One target section in the full `references/*.md` - code samples and checklists only.
4. [INDEX-sections.md](references/INDEX-sections.md) - anchor dump only when quick routing is insufficient.

Forbidden: load [INDEX-sections.md](references/INDEX-sections.md) or an entire multi-thousand-line reference when one section or a quick file covers the task.

Route tasks through the Quick Reference table. When no row matches, or the task needs greenfield bootstrap: [workflows.md](references/workflows.md). Full file list: [INDEX.md](references/INDEX.md).

**Required:**

- **Existing project:** read `settings.gradle.kts`, `gradle/libs.versions.toml`, and the `app` module build file before copying from `assets/` - [dependencies.md](references/dependencies.md#existing-project-brownfield), [modularization.md](references/modularization.md#existing-project-alignment). Stack migrations: [migration.md](references/migration.md).
- **Greenfield:** [workflows.md](references/workflows.md) → "Creating a new project?"
- After module, DI, navigation, Room schema, or AGP/Kotlin/KSP changes: `./gradlew help` then `:app:assembleDebug` (use the real app module name) - [gradle-setup.md](references/gradle-setup.md#verify-after-toolchain-or-module-changes).
