# cheese

A router skill that takes an idea, path, PR, bug or question and picks the right workflow skill for it. Handy when you don't want to memorise command names.

## What it does

\`/cheese` routes, it doesn't work. It reads your whole message, classifies the intent and hands control to the matching skill: `/cook`, `/mold`, `/cure`, `/plate` and others. It never edits files, runs tests or opens pull requests — only read, search and dispatch.

Input can be almost anything: a feature description, a spec path like `.cheese/specs/<slug>.md`, a stack trace, a PR or issue reference, a question about an external library. An empty prompt is treated as "what's next?" and clarified with a single question. Flags exist too: `--safe` gates the final dispatch behind a confirmation prompt, `--continue <slug-or-note-path>` resumes an in-flight pipeline, and `--open-pr` or `--hard` propagate down the chain to `/plate`.

Before dispatching to `/mold`, the skill scans `.cheese/.out-of-scope/*.md` for a matching rejection record. On a hit it surfaces the rejected direction and its rationale, then asks whether to proceed. It won't quietly re-propose something you already turned down — worth knowing if you expected a fully automatic run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --skill cheese -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cheese/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cheese/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --skill cheese -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cheese/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --skill cheese -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cheese/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install paulnsorensen/easy-cheese cheese
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cheese/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --skill cheese -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --path skills/cheese
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cheese/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add paulnsorensen/easy-cheese --skill cheese -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/paulnsorensen/easy-cheese/tree/HEAD/skills/cheese/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- route a raw request to the right workflow skill
- resume a stopped pipeline from a handoff slug
- catch a previously rejected direction before work starts
- check route coherence before dispatch
- clarify an empty prompt with one question instead of guessing

## Example prompts
- /cheese add CSV export to the report
- /cheese --safe PR#142
- /cheese --continue auth-refactor

## Inputs

Accept anything the user supplies as `$ARGUMENTS`:

- A natural-language feature description, idea, or question.
- A spec path (`.cheese/specs/<slug>.md`) or pasted spec content.
- A bug report, stack trace, failing test output, or reproduction steps.
- A file path, glob, or directory.
- A PR or issue reference (`PR#142`, `#87`, GitHub URL).
- A research question about an external library, API, or pattern.
- An empty or near-empty prompt — treat as "what's next?" and clarify.

Optional flags:

- `--safe` — gate dispatch behind a confirmation prompt.
- `--open-pr` — propagate through the implementation chain to `/cure`.
  `/cure` consumes this flag and sends the publication intent to terminal `/plate`.
  `/plate` accepts no `--open-pr` flag of its own.
  A new PR follows `/plate`'s explicit choice and review shape policy.
- `--continue <slug-or-note-path>` — resume an in-flight pipeline from a handoff slug or note.
- `--hard` — propagate to `/plate`, which runs the final artifact-writing gate before `/hard-cheese` and publication.
- `--reground` — use with `--continue` only. Adversarially re-check the handoff claims before phase dispatch.

If `$ARGUMENTS` is missing, ask one clarifying question through the host routing guide.
Use [`references/handoff-gate.md`](references/handoff-gate.md).

## Flow

0. **Read the full user message, not just `$ARGUMENTS`.** Treat all other user prose as a directive list.
   Follow live directives instead of conflicting defaults or the handoff protocol.
   The handoff file restores state.
   The user's live message overrides it.
   **Exception: a live directive never waives a resume integrity gate.**
   Ambiguity, unresolved lineage, an integrity finding, and `status: gated:` still stop dispatch.
   A live directive answers only the informed trust gate for a clean legacy result.
   [`references/continue-resume.md`](references/continue-resume.md) owns these gates.
1. **Think first (silent).** Model the problem internally per `skills/culture/SKILL.md` — restate the ask, list candidate targets, name the deciding signal. Output is the classification that drives step 2.
2. **Classify** — match `$ARGUMENTS` against the intent shapes in `references/classification.md`. Pick the highest-confidence shape; below the threshold, route to `clarify` (handled by the tier-3 escalation in step 4).
3. **Clarity check (`cook` intents only).** Run Cook's fast-path check for a `cook` intent.
   Dispatch a `mold` intent to `/mold`'s user mode instead.
   Direct `plate` intents bypass this check.
```
