## What it does

\`cfb-data` wires an agent into ESPN's public endpoints and NCAA's official ones. Ask it for scores, conference standings, AP Top 25 and CFP rankings, team rosters, schedules, game summaries, play-by-play, injury reports, futures markets and team or player stats. Official FCS scoreboards and a schools index come along too.

The work happens through commands like `get_scoreboard`, `get_standings`, `get_rankings` and `get_team_roster`, called from the CLI as `sports-skills cfb <command>`. Standings need a `group` parameter with the conference ID. If you only have a team name, resolve it first with `get_teams`.

Check the CLI before the first query: `which sports-skills || pip install sports-skills`. The package wants Python 3.10+, so an older interpreter will break the install and you'll need to point pip at a newer one. No credentials are involved. For the season, the skill advises deriving the year from the current date — February through July means the previous year, August onward means the current one.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill cfb-data -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cfb-data/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill cfb-data -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill cfb-data -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install machina-sports/sports-skills cfb-data
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill cfb-data -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/machina-sports/sports-skills --path skills/cfb-data
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill cfb-data -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/machina-sports/sports-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/cfb-data/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull college football scores for a given week
- build a standings table for one conference
- check AP Top 25 and CFP rankings before a game
- list a team's roster with positions and jersey numbers
- break down a game drive by drive with win probability

## Example prompts
- Show me college football scores from this weekend
- Build the SEC standings for the current season
- Get the AP Top 25 and break down Alabama's last game
