## What it does

The skill asks for your current cash balance and planning horizon, defaulting to 3 months. It reviews 6 to 12 months of historical banking activity to map spending patterns. When available, it uses Wilson tools: `transaction_search` pulls transaction records, `spending_summary` aggregates category totals, and `anomaly_detect` spots recurring items like payroll or rent. Without Wilson, the workflow provides manual formulas for spreadsheets.

The final output is a monthly projection table. Inflows and outflows are split into predictable recurring lines and variable estimates. Each column tracks opening balance, net cash flow, and closing balance. If a projected month falls below a safety threshold—recommended at 2 months of operational expenses—the agent flags the shortfall.

This projection runs strictly on a cash basis. Pending bills and unpaid client invoices are invisible to the model until money actually moves across the account.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openaccountant/skills --skill cash-flow-forecast -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cash-flow-forecast/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cash-flow-forecast/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openaccountant/skills --skill cash-flow-forecast -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cash-flow-forecast/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openaccountant/skills --skill cash-flow-forecast -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cash-flow-forecast/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install openaccountant/skills cash-flow-forecast
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cash-flow-forecast/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openaccountant/skills --skill cash-flow-forecast -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/openaccountant/skills --path business/cash-flow-forecast
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cash-flow-forecast/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openaccountant/skills --skill cash-flow-forecast -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- project monthly cash inflows and outflows for the upcoming quarter
- separate fixed overhead like rent and payroll from variable expenses
- calculate 3-month moving averages across historical transaction records
- detect upcoming cash crunches when balances drop below safety reserves

## Example prompts
- Build a 3-month cash flow forecast with an opening balance of $45,000.
- Analyze transactions from the last 6 months and separate recurring expenses from variable spending.
- Project our cash balance for next quarter and warn me if reserves drop below 2 months of expenses.

# Cash Flow Forecast

## Overview
Project future cash inflows and outflows using a 3-month moving average methodology. Identifies recurring revenue and expenses, detects seasonal patterns, and produces a monthly projection table.

## Wilson Tools Used
- `spending_summary` — get monthly expense totals and category breakdowns for trend analysis
- `anomaly_detect` — identify recurring transactions (subscriptions, regular payments, payroll) that form the predictable baseline
- `transaction_search` — pull historical cash position and transaction data

## Workflow
1. Ask for the forecast horizon (default: 3 months) and current cash balance.
2. Use `transaction_search` to pull the last 6-12 months of transactions.
3. Use `spending_summary` for each of the past 6 months to get income and expense totals.
4. Use `anomaly_detect` to identify recurring transactions (subscriptions, payroll, rent, retainers).
5. Calculate the 3-month moving average for income and expenses:
   - Moving Avg Income = (Month-1 + Month-2 + Month-3) / 3
   - Moving Avg Expenses = (Month-1 + Month-2 + Month-3) / 3
6. Separate recurring (predictable) from variable (estimated) cash flows.
7. Generate the projection:
