## What it does

The skill configures automated checks in Cargo workspaces through `cargo-ai observability`. On each cron interval, it evaluates telemetry spans, run metrics, or SQL queries against a set threshold. If a threshold breaches, it triggers an agent or an external connector. It is strictly proactive: if you need to investigate an existing failure, use cargo-diagnostics instead.

Alert creation relies on `alert preview`. The preview runs immediately against real workspace data without firing notifications. It verifies that your chosen scope pairs with the metric, keeping invalid schedules from generating error events on every tick.

You will need the `@cargo-ai/cli` package and a valid workspace login. Creating or editing alerts requires a token with `observability:write`. Tight schedules under 30 minutes scan ClickHouse on every cycle and trigger paid runs, so set intervals with care.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-observability -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cargo-observability/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cargo-observability/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-observability -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cargo-observability/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-observability -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cargo-observability/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getcargohq/cargo-skills cargo-observability
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cargo-observability/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-observability -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills --path cargo-observability
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cargo-observability/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-observability -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- monitor workflow run error rates on a recurring cron schedule
- track storage model freshness and row counts using SQL queries
- trigger agent or connector actions automatically upon threshold breaches
- validate scope and threshold configurations prior to committing alerts

## Example prompts
- Preview an alert evaluating errorRate for workflow <workflow-uuid> over the last 24 hours
- Create a Cargo alert checking storage model freshness every 30 minutes
- Inspect alert firing history with cargo-ai observability event

# Cargo CLI — Observability

**Alerts.** An alert is a scheduled threshold check. On every cron tick it measures a **scope** (what to watch), compares the measured value against a **threshold** (the breach condition), and on breach fires **actions** — each as its own run — and records an **event**. This is the proactive counterpart to `cargo-diagnostics`: diagnostics explains a failure *after* you notice it; an alert *tells you* the moment a metric crosses a line.

Everything lives under one CLI domain:

```bash
cargo-ai observability alert   …   # the alert CRUD + preview surface
cargo-ai observability event   …   # an alert's firing history
```

```bash
npm install -g @cargo-ai/cli            # no global install? prefix every command with `npx @cargo-ai/cli`
cargo-ai login --email you@company.com  # emailed code, no browser; creates the account on first use
                                        # alternatives: --oauth (browser) · --token <api-token> (CI)
cargo-ai whoami                         # confirm the active workspace before any write
```
