## What it does

The skill covers the whole mailbox cycle: provisioning an inbox on a sending domain, provider warm-up, the 5→40/day send ramp, and delivery through the `sendEmail` action. It reads back threads, replies, delivery events and the workspace suppression list. Under the hood it drives the `cargo-ai mailboxManagement` command group — `mailbox`, `message`, `thread`, `event`, `suppression`, `pricing`.

Before the first send the skill runs three checks: basis for contacting the audience, subtracting the suppression list before you enrich or send, and a per-recipient reason the message is relevant. The ramp is a ceiling, not a target — `get-send-allowance` reports what a mailbox may send over a rolling 24 hours, and filling that number is not the goal. Unsubscribes are automatic: every send carries a signed `List-Unsubscribe` header, and the engine refuses the next send to a suppressed address.

You need `@cargo-ai/cli` from npm and a sign-in via `cargo-ai login --email` (emailed code, no browser), `--oauth` or a token. The `mailboxManagement:read` and `mailboxManagement:write` permissions are held by admins and editors, not viewers — a permission error on create means the token is read-only. A mailbox bills as a recurring monthly credit charge rather than per record. A freshly created mailbox sits at `pending`, and you poll it with `mailbox refresh-status`, not `run get`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-mailbox-management -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-mailbox-management -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-mailbox-management -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getcargohq/cargo-skills cargo-mailbox-management
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-mailbox-management -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills --path cargo-mailbox-management
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cargo-mailbox-management/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-mailbox-management -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- provision a sending mailbox on your own domain through Cargo
- warm up a new inbox and reach a working send volume
- check how many sends are left today
- send a message from Cargo and track the reply in a thread
- add a recipient to the suppression list so they are never emailed again

## Example prompts
- set up a sending mailbox on our domain and start the warm-up
- how many sends do I have left today on this mailbox
- suppress this recipient, never email them again

# Cargo CLI — Mailbox Management

**Mailboxes.** A mailbox is a real sending inbox the workspace **owns** — provisioned through
Cargo on a sending domain the workspace also owns, with SMTP and IMAP credentials Cargo holds
and uses to deliver outbound mail and to read the replies that come back. Two things follow,
and both are easy to get wrong: a mailbox is a **recurring monthly credit charge** rather than
a per-record one, and this domain does **not** send. It provisions the inbox, ramps it, and
reports on what it did; the send itself is the `sendEmail` action, under
[`cargo-orchestration`](../cargo-orchestration/SKILL.md).

```bash
cargo-ai mailboxManagement mailbox      …   # provision, warm-up, send allowance
cargo-ai mailboxManagement message      …   # outbound sends
