# cargo-hosting

Teaches the agent to scaffold, deploy, and promote static web apps and serverless edge workers via the Cargo CLI. Useful when you need a live URL for a dashboard or webhook endpoint.

## What it does

The skill guides your agent through hosting two workspace resources in Cargo: static web frontends (Vite single-page apps by default) and serverless HTTP edge workers. Static templates use `@cargo-ai/app-sdk`, while edge workers rely on `@cargo-ai/worker-sdk`, which automatically exposes an OpenAPI 3.1 specification at `/openapi.json` alongside Swagger UI.

Releases follow a four-step lifecycle: scaffold local code, reserve a named slot with a slug, upload the source, and promote the build. Backend builds run asynchronously in a sandbox. You must inspect the deployment status before promoting, because an upload does not go live until promotion completes.

Every operation depends on `@cargo-ai/cli` and an authenticated session via `cargo-ai login`. Apps and workers deploy under distinct root domains, `.app.getcargo.run` and `.worker.getcargo.run`. This forces all browser calls from an app to its worker to cross origins, requiring explicit CORS handling on the worker side.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-hosting -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cargo-hosting/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-hosting -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-hosting -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getcargohq/cargo-skills cargo-hosting
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-hosting -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills --path cargo-hosting
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-hosting -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills/tree/HEAD/cargo-hosting/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- deploy a static Vite web application to a live subdomain
- scaffold and host a serverless edge worker for HTTP webhooks
- build and promote deployment packages without downtime
- inspect async build statuses and preview hosts before launch

## Example prompts
- Build a Vite dashboard with cargo-hosting and deploy it to a live URL
- Scaffold a serverless edge worker for incoming webhooks and deploy it
- Promote the latest deployment build to our live app domain

# Cargo CLI — Hosting

**Cargo Hosting** runs two kinds of workspace-scoped resources, plus the deployments that ship them:

- **App** — a static front end (a Vite single-page app by default; Astro, Gatsby, Create React App, Parcel and Webpack are detected too, and Next.js, SvelteKit or Nuxt work through their own `build` script, see [App builds](#app-builds)) served on its own subdomain (see [URLs](#urls)). The templates are built on `@cargo-ai/app-sdk` (Vite + refine + shadcn primitives, with `getCargoEnv()` / `useCargoApi()` wired to the workspace).
- **Worker** — a serverless HTTP handler that runs on the edge (`fetch(request, env)`), built on `@cargo-ai/worker-sdk` (auto OpenAPI 3.1 spec at `/openapi.json`, Swagger UI at `/docs`).
- **Deployment** — one build+upload of a local source directory to an app or worker. A deployment is **not live until it's promoted**.

> For organizing apps/workers into **folders**, use [`cargo-workspace-management`](../cargo-workspace-management/SKILL.md) (`folder …`). The `--folder-uuid` flags here consume those folder UUIDs.

> See `references/examples/apps.md`, `references/examples/workers.md`, and `references/examples/deployments.md` for end-to-end walkthroughs.
> See `references/response-shapes.md` for JSON response structures.
> See `references/troubleshooting.md` for common errors and how to fix them.
