## What it does

The skill connects your agent to the `@cargo-ai/cli` utility to inspect Cargo usage and subscription details. It pulls metrics across date ranges, aggregates consumption by workflow or connector, and retrieves invoice history. You can also generate billing portal sessions or update cards without leaving the terminal.

Pre-flight batch estimation follows a sample run workflow. The agent measures credit burn on a single record, then adds the 0.01 platform fee per node execution. Skipping execution fees leaves step-heavy workflows under-quoted.

Every command expects an admin token with the `billing:read` scope. Updating cards or plans requires `billing:write`. Missing permissions trigger a 401 `Not authenticated: unauthorized` status. When you need to isolate which individual node inflates play costs, use `cargo-diagnostics` instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-billing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/cargo-billing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/cargo-billing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-billing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/cargo-billing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-billing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/cargo-billing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install getcargohq/cargo-skills cargo-billing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/cargo-billing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-billing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills --path cargo-billing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/cargo-billing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add getcargohq/cargo-skills --skill cargo-billing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/getcargohq/cargo-skills/tree/HEAD/cargo-billing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- estimate credit spend before starting large batch runs
- check remaining workspace credits and subscription tier
- break down expenses by connector, model, or workflow UUID
- retrieve billing invoices and update payment card details

## Example prompts
- How many credits do I have left in Cargo?
- Show my usage metrics grouped by workflow_uuid for the last week
- Can we afford running this workflow across 10,000 records?

# Cargo CLI — Billing

Billing and credit management: pulling usage metrics, checking subscription status, viewing invoices, and managing credits.

> See `references/response-shapes.md` for full JSON response structures.
> See `references/troubleshooting.md` for common errors and how to fix them.
> See `references/examples/usage-metrics.md` for usage metric and subscription examples.

## Bootstrap

Already signed in (`cargo-ai whoami` returns a workspace)? Skip to the next section.

```bash
npm install -g @cargo-ai/cli            # no global install? prefix every command with `npx @cargo-ai/cli`
cargo-ai login --email you@company.com  # emailed code, no browser; creates the account on first use
                                        # alternatives: --oauth (browser) · --token <api-token> (CI)
cargo-ai whoami                         # confirm the active workspace before any write
```

Every command prints JSON to stdout; failures exit non-zero with `{"errorMessage": "..."}`. Anything that creates a run or a batch is async — pass `--wait-until-finished` or poll the matching `get`. **Admin-only:** every command in this skill requires a token with admin access on the workspace (the `billing:read` permission; card, plan and top-up changes need `billing:write`). A token without it gets a 401 `{"reason":"unauthorized"}`, which the CLI reports as `Not authenticated: unauthorized`: that is a permission gap, not an expired login. When the full skill bundle is installed, [`../cargo/references/prerequisites.md`](../cargo/references/prerequisites.md) adds the CLI version pin, token scopes, and the admin-only surface.

## Discover resources first

Usage metrics can be filtered and grouped by resource UUID. Discover them before querying.
