## What it does

This skill executes a Bash script that discovers the `claude-carbon` package inside your configuration directory, status line configuration, or plugin cache. It converts Windows paths using `cygpath` and relies on `jq` to read config files.

The execution prints raw badge URLs alongside ready-to-paste Markdown and methodology notes. Output stays untouched by the agent: numbers, dates, and links remain strictly as the script produced them.

The generated badge represents individual developer metrics rather than team usage. Because shields.io serves a static asset tied to a specific month, refreshing your statistics requires re-running `/carbon-badge`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gwittebolle/claude-carbon --skill carbon-badge -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/carbon-badge/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gwittebolle/claude-carbon --skill carbon-badge -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gwittebolle/claude-carbon --skill carbon-badge -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install gwittebolle/claude-carbon carbon-badge
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gwittebolle/claude-carbon --skill carbon-badge -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/gwittebolle/claude-carbon --path skills/carbon-badge
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add gwittebolle/claude-carbon --skill carbon-badge -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/gwittebolle/claude-carbon/tree/HEAD/skills/carbon-badge/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add a carbon footprint badge to your GitHub profile README
- generate a shields.io snippet with Claude Code emission figures
- refresh monthly environmental metrics for a personal project

## Example prompts
- Run /carbon-badge to generate a README badge
- Create my carbon footprint shields.io snippet using /carbon-badge
- Get the markdown badge for my Claude Code emissions

The script prints a ready-to-paste markdown snippet, the raw badge URL and a short note on where the badge belongs. Show all of it exactly as printed — never recompute, reformat or re-escape the number, the month or the URL. The badge is one developer's total, dated with the month it was generated, and it links to the methodology. It belongs in the user's profile README or a personal project, not in a team or organisation repository. The badge is a static image, so re-running `/carbon-badge` is how they refresh the figure and its month.

If the script is missing (an install that predates the badge), suggest `/carbon-update`.
