## What it does

This skill guides an AI agent through adding the remote Capacitor MCP server to your workspace. It inspects project files such as `.mcp.json` or `.cursor/mcp.json` to detect the active client before writing configurations. The server runs at `https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp` and requires no accounts, tokens, or local credentials.

Once configured, the agent queries tools like `search_docs`, `get_doc_page`, `list_plugins`, and `list_blog_posts`. The skill instructs the agent to read `@capacitor/core` from `package.json` and pass the matching release tag (`v6`, `v7`, `v8`, or `next`). Without this parameter, the server defaults to v8, which causes invalid code suggestions on older project setups.

Clients without direct HTTP MCP support require Node.js 22 or later to run the local `@capawesome/capacitor-mcp` stdio proxy. Keep in mind that requests are rate-limited to 100 queries per minute per IP, and search indexing expects exact whole-word terms.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-mcp/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills capacitor-mcp
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/capacitor-mcp
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure the Capacitor MCP server in your editor or agent automatically
- pull official docs matching your exact `@capacitor/core` version
- discover community and official plugins for native mobile features
- fetch recent Capacitor release notes and Ionic blog updates

## Example prompts
- Set up the Capacitor MCP server for this project
- Find a community plugin for camera access on Capacitor v7
- Search Capacitor documentation for iOS splash screen configuration

# Capacitor MCP Server

Connect an MCP client to the hosted Capacitor MCP server for the current Capacitor documentation, the official and community plugin list, and the Capacitor posts from the Ionic blog.

The server is hosted by Capawesome — there is nothing to install, no account, and no token:

```
https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp
```

This is an unofficial server. It is maintained by Capawesome and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ionic or OutSystems. It serves the official Capacitor documentation, © the Ionic team and licensed under [Apache-2.0](https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0).

## Prerequisites

1. An MCP client: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, or any other client that implements the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io).
2. Network access to `https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io`.
3. For clients that only start local commands: Node.js 22 or later.

## Agent Behavior

- **Guide step-by-step.** Walk the user through the process one step at a time. Never present multiple unrelated questions at once.
- **Auto-detect before asking.** Detect the MCP client from the project before asking the user which one they use.
- **Never ask for credentials.** The server needs no account and no token. Never prompt for one and never write an `Authorization` header into the configuration.
- **Pass the matching documentation version.** Read `@capacitor/core` from `package.json` and pass the matching `version` on every call. See [Documentation Versions](#documentation-versions).

## Procedures
