## What it does

The skill walks the agent through the whole launch path. It inspects `capacitor.config.*`, `styles.xml`, `variables.gradle`, `Info.plist`, `SceneDelegate.swift` and the assets folder, then helps regenerate icons and splashes with `npx capacitor-assets generate`. The two phases are kept apart: the OS launch screen that runs before any code, and the plugin overlay that stays until `hide()` is called.

The sharpest trap is `launchAutoHide: false`. A JS crash before `hide()` leaves the app stuck on the splash forever, so the skill recommends a fallback timer. It also tells you to paint the `<body>` background in the splash color, otherwise the gap before the first web render still flashes white. On Android 12+ options like `androidScaleType` and `showSpinner` do nothing, because the system draws that screen itself. Keep the logo inside the center third or the circular mask crops it.

A version table covers the breaking changes. In Capacitor 9 the Android default for `launchFadeOutDuration` moved from 200 to 0, so the fade disappears unless you set 200 yourself. On iOS from 8.5 the window and `CAPBridgeViewController` are created in `SceneDelegate`, and `Main.storyboard` no longer supplies the root view controller, so adding views there gets you nothing. iOS caches the storyboard, which means deleting the app and reinstalling after every edit.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-splash-screen -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-splash-screen -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-splash-screen -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills capacitor-splash-screen
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-splash-screen -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/capacitor-splash-screen
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-splash-screen/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-splash-screen -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- kill the white or black flash between splash and first web paint
- fix a splash that never hides after launch
- restore the fade-out on Android after moving to Capacitor 9
- fix a cropped icon on Android 12+
- regenerate icons and splash assets from source images

## Example prompts
- the splash never hides after launch, check the SplashScreen config and call hide() when the screen is ready
- on Android 12 the icon is cropped into a circle, help me fix the Theme.SplashScreen theme
- the splash fade disappeared after upgrading to Capacitor 9, bring it back

description: Configures and debugs launch splash screens in Capacitor apps with @capacitor/splash-screen and @capacitor/assets - `launchAutoHide`, `SplashScreen.hide()`, `launchFadeOutDuration` (Android default changed 200 -> 0 in Capacitor 9), Android 12+ SplashScreen API theme (`Theme.SplashScreen`, `windowSplashScreenAnimatedIcon`), iOS `LaunchScreen.storyboard` + `Splash.imageset`, and Capacitor 8.5 UIScene/SceneDelegate effects (window created in code, Main.storyboard no longer supplies the root view controller). Use for white/black flash at launch, splash never hiding, cropped/tiny Android 12 icon, dark-mode splash, or regenerating icons and splash assets. Do not use for status/navigation bar color and insets (safe-area-handling), the UIScene migration itself (capacitor-uiscene-migration), or startup performance profiling (capacitor-performance).

# Splash Screen in Capacitor

## When to Use

TRIGGER when:
- Configuring or regenerating splash / icon assets (`npx capacitor-assets generate`)
- Splash never disappears, disappears too early, or flashes white/black before the web app paints
- Android 12+ shows a small cropped icon on a solid color instead of the full image
- Upgrading to Capacitor 9 and the Android fade-out animation vanished
- iOS shows a black screen after adding `SceneDelegate.swift` (8.5+)

Do not use:
- Status bar / navigation bar styling and edge-to-edge insets: `safe-area-handling`
- Migrating AppDelegate to SceneDelegate: `capacitor-uiscene-migration`
- Slow first paint / bundle size: `capacitor-performance`
- Icon requirements for store submission: `capacitor-app-store`

## How launch works (decide what to edit)

| Phase | iOS | Android 12+ | Android <= 11 |
|-------|-----|-------------|---------------|
| OS launch screen (before any code) | `LaunchScreen.storyboard` (`UILaunchStoryboardName`), image `Splash` in `Assets.xcassets/Splash.imageset` | System SplashScreen API: theme `AppTheme.NoActionBarLaunch` with `Theme.SplashScreen` parent - icon + background color only | `androidx.core:core-splashscreen` compat, or `android:background` drawable |
