## What it does

Reach for this skill when a Capacitor project needs a plugin wired up and configured for Android and iOS. The agent moves step by step: it matches the request to a plugin, reads the matching file in `references/`, then inspects the project itself — whether `android/` and `ios/` exist, which build tool is in play, the iOS dependency manager, and the `@capacitor/core` version in `package.json`. It only asks about what the files cannot answer.

Installation runs through `npm install` and `npx cap sync`, followed by platform edits: Gradle variables in `variables.gradle`, permissions in `AndroidManifest.xml`, entries in `Info.plist` and `AppDelegate.swift`. Where a plugin offers variants such as SQLite encryption, the agent asks one question and waits instead of dumping every option at once. Some plugins sit behind a Capawesome Insiders license, so the private `@capawesome-team` npm registry and an auth token have to be set up first — skip that and the install fails.

You need Node.js and npm, Xcode with CocoaPods or Swift Package Manager for iOS plugins, and Android Studio for Android. The app has to run Capacitor 6, 7 or 8. The skill stays out of Capacitor version migrations, Live Updates setup, and mobile frameworks other than Capacitor. Two documentation MCP servers can be added with `claude mcp add`, though the skill works without them.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-plugins -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-plugins/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-plugins -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-plugins -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills capacitor-plugins
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-plugins -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/capacitor-plugins
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-plugins -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-plugins/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- install a Capacitor plugin and remember the `npx cap sync` step
- set Android permissions in `AndroidManifest.xml`
- add the right `Info.plist` entries for an iOS plugin
- pick between a Capawesome plugin and a community alternative
- configure the private npm registry for Capawesome Insiders plugins

## Example prompts
- Install the Capacitor camera plugin and configure it for Android and iOS
- I need an SQLite plugin with encryption — set it up
- Check which platforms this project has and add the push notifications plugin

# Capacitor Plugins

Install, configure, and use Capacitor plugins from official, Capawesome, community, Firebase, MLKit, and RevenueCat sources.

## Prerequisites

1. **Capacitor 6, 7, or 8** app.
2. Node.js and npm installed.
3. For iOS plugins: Xcode installed. CocoaPods or Swift Package Manager (SPM) for dependency management.
4. For Android plugins: Android Studio installed.

## Agent Behavior

- **Guide step-by-step.** Walk the user through the process one step at a time. Never present multiple unrelated questions at once.
- **Auto-detect before asking.** Check the project for platforms (`android/`, `ios/`), build tools (`vite.config.ts`, `angular.json`, `webpack.config.js`), framework, existing npm registry config, and `package.json` dependencies. Only ask the user when something cannot be detected.
- **One decision at a time.** When a step requires user input (e.g., encryption yes/no), ask that single question, wait for the answer, then continue to the next step.
- **Present clear options.** When asking a question, provide concrete choices (e.g., "Do you need SQLite encryption? (yes/no)") instead of open-ended questions.

## MCP Servers

Two hosted MCP servers serve the current documentation, so both are always ahead of the guidance bundled with this skill:

- **[Capawesome MCP server](https://capawesome.io/docs/ai/mcp/capawesome/)** — the Capawesome plugins, the Capawesome CLI, and Capawesome Cloud.
