## What it does

This skill guides the upgrade of a Capacitor plugin library from v6 to v7. It starts by running `npx @capacitor/plugin-migration-v6-to-v7@latest`, then executes a manual checklist across the repository. In `package.json`, dev dependencies for `@capacitor/*` bump to `^7.0.0`, while the peer dependency for `@capacitor/core` targets `>=7.0.0`. It also renames `rollup.config.js` to `rollup.config.mjs`.

Native platforms receive toolchain updates. Android defaults move to `minSdk 23` alongside compile and target SDK 35, backed by AGP 8.7.2, Gradle 8.11.1, Java 21, and Kotlin 1.9.25. On iOS, the deployment target rises to iOS 14 across both the podspec and `Package.swift`, while `capacitor-swift-pm` pins to version 7.0.0 rather than branch `main`.

Gradle builds fail immediately if JDK 21 is missing. Beyond build files, the skill replaces deprecated methods across Swift, Java, and TypeScript: `call.success()` and `call.error()` become `resolve()` and `reject()`, `Capacitor.platform` shifts to `Capacitor.getPlatform()`, and removed components like `BridgeFragment` are cleaned out.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v6-to-v7/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Run the `@capacitor/plugin-migration-v6-to-v7` migration script
- Update Android configs to Java 21, Gradle 8.11.1, and SDK 35
- Raise the iOS target to 14.0 and pin `capacitor-swift-pm` to version 7.0.0
- Replace removed `call.success()` and `call.error()` with `resolve` and `reject`

## Example prompts
- Upgrade this plugin repository from Capacitor 6 to Capacitor 7
- Replace deprecated call.success and call.error calls with resolve and reject
- Update Android and iOS native configurations for Capacitor 7

Use when a plugin targets Capacitor 6 and must support 7. Do not use for app upgrades, other major versions, or non-Capacitor libraries.

# Capacitor Plugin Upgrade v6 to v7

Move a plugin library to Capacitor 7. Source of truth: https://capacitorjs.com/docs/updating/plugins/7-0

## When to Use

- Snapshot shows `@capacitor/core` 6.x and the plugin must work in Capacitor 7 apps.
- Plugin code still calls `call.success()`, `call.error()`, `registerWebPlugin`, `Capacitor.platform`, `Capacitor.isNative`, or uses `BridgeFragment`.
- `Package.swift` points `capacitor-swift-pm` at `branch: "main"`.

Do not use:

- Upgrading an app -> `capacitor-app-upgrade-v6-to-v7`.
- Plugin on 5.x -> `capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v5-to-v6` first; on 7.x -> `capacitor-plugin-upgrade-v7-to-v8`. Multi-hop -> `capacitor-plugin-upgrades`.
- Adding SPM from scratch -> `capacitor-plugin-spm-support`.

## Live Project Snapshot

Plugin and Capacitor package snapshot:
!`node -e "const fs=require('fs');if(!fs.existsSync('package.json'))process.exit(0);const pkg=JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync('package.json','utf8'));const out=['package.name='+(pkg.name||''),'package.version='+(pkg.version||'')];for(const section of ['peerDependencies','dependencies','devDependencies']){for(const [name,version] of Object.entries(pkg[section]||{})){if(name.startsWith('@capacitor/'))out.push(section+'.'+name+'='+version)}}console.log(out.join('\n'))"`

Example and native project paths:
!`find . -maxdepth 3 \( -path './example-app' -o -path './ios' -o -path './android' \)`
