## What it does

The skill helps the agent pick between `@capawesome/capacitor-electron` and `@capawesome/capacitor-tauri`, install the platform and configure it. Both follow the standard Capacitor loop: `cap add`, `cap sync`, `cap run`. Plugin requirements usually settle the choice — Electron reuses Capacitor plugins through native Node implementations, while Tauri compiles web assets into the binary.

Inside are step-by-step procedures: detecting installed platforms and plugins from `package.json`, scaffolding, sync and run workflows, live reload, deep links, packaging and app updates. On Tauri, sync also scans the app's Capacitor plugin dependencies and generates a deny-by-default capability file, the curated `tauri-plugin-*` crates and the Rust plugin registrations.

Node.js 18+ and npm are required. Tauri additionally needs the Rust toolchain and its system dependencies, so the skill tells the agent to verify `rustc --version` before starting. One more catch: on Capacitor 6 and 7 the CLI ignores the exit code of platform hooks, so a failing `npx cap sync` still reports success. Check the log for `[capacitor-electron]` errors.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-platforms -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-platforms/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-platforms -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-platforms -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills capacitor-platforms
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-platforms -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/capacitor-platforms
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-platforms -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-platforms/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide between Electron and Tauri for a project
- add a desktop platform to an existing Capacitor app
- set up live reload and deep links on desktop
- check which Capacitor plugins survive a move to Tauri
- package a signed binary for macOS, Windows and Linux

## Example prompts
- Add @capawesome/capacitor-electron to the project and configure the window and deep links
- Check whether every Capacitor plugin in the app is covered by a web implementation for Tauri
- Set up live reload for the desktop platform through server.url

# Capacitor Platforms (Desktop)

Bring a Capacitor app to macOS, Windows, and Linux with the Capawesome desktop platforms: [`@capawesome/capacitor-electron`](https://github.com/capawesome-team/capacitor-electron) and [`@capawesome/capacitor-tauri`](https://github.com/capawesome-team/capacitor-tauri). Both use the standard Capacitor workflow (`cap add` / `cap sync` / `cap run`), report `Capacitor.isNativePlatform()` as `true`, and deliver deep links through the standard `@capacitor/app` events.

## Prerequisites

| Requirement | Electron | Tauri |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Node.js | LTS (18+) | LTS (18+) |
| Capacitor | 6+ | 8+ |
| Electron | >= 28 (installed by the scaffold) | — |
| Rust toolchain + system dependencies | — | Required — see the [Tauri prerequisites guide](https://v2.tauri.app/start/prerequisites/) |

On Capacitor 6 and 7, the Capacitor CLI ignores the exit code of platform hooks — a failing `npx cap sync` still reports success. Check the log output for `[capacitor-electron]` errors. Capacitor 8 fails the command properly.

## Agent Behavior

- **Auto-detect before asking.** Read `package.json` and the Capacitor config to determine installed platforms and plugins before prompting the user.
- **Help choose the platform first.** If the user has not committed to Electron or Tauri, apply Step 1 — plugin requirements usually decide it.
