## What it does

The skill guides agents through configuring four distinct MCP servers. These include `awesome-ionic-mcp` for reading Ionic component APIs and running CLI tasks, the hosted Capgo server at `https://api.capgo.app/mcp`, the local CLI tool via `npx @capgo/cli@latest mcp`, and Xcode's native bridge `xcrun mcpbridge`.

Hosted Capgo relies on OAuth 2.1 or an API key, issuing tokens valid for up to 90 days. In contrast, local Capgo CLI commands demand a prior `npx @capgo/cli@latest login` run on the machine. If community plugin requests trigger GitHub rate limits, adding an unprivileged `GITHUB_TOKEN` variable to the server configuration resolves the blocker.

Without enabling external agents inside Xcode Settings under Intelligence, `xcrun mcpbridge` connects but reveals zero tools. The bridge also fails if `xcode-select` targets `CommandLineTools` rather than an installed Xcode application.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-mcp/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills capacitor-mcp
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/capacitor-mcp
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-mcp -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-mcp/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- connect Ionic component references and Capacitor plugin tools to an agent
- trigger iOS builds directly through the Xcode MCP bridge
- set up authentication for hosted and local Capgo MCP servers
- fix empty tool lists and GitHub API rate limits in MCP integrations

## Example prompts
- Configure an MCP server to access Ionic and Capacitor documentation.
- Connect the Xcode MCP bridge to build the iOS app from Claude Code.
- Fix the Capgo MCP server connection showing zero available tools.

name: capacitor-mcp
description: Connect AI agents (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Cline, Codex) to Capacitor and Ionic tooling over Model Context Protocol. Covers the awesome-ionic-mcp server (Ionic component APIs, Capacitor plugin docs, Ionic/Capacitor CLI tools), the Capgo hosted MCP at https://api.capgo.app/mcp, the local Capgo CLI MCP (npx @capgo/cli@latest mcp), and Xcode's MCP bridge (xcrun mcpbridge) for building the iOS app from an agent. Use when the user wants to add, configure, verify, or troubleshoot an MCP server for a Capacitor project, or sees errors like "GitHub API rate limit exceeded", "unable to find utility \"mcpbridge\"", or an MCP server that connects with no tools. Do not use for Capgo account operations themselves (capgo-cloud, capgo-cli-usage), app debugging (debugging-capacitor), device logs (ios-android-logs), choosing plugins (capacitor-plugins), or Ionic UI work (ionic-design).

# Capacitor MCP Servers

Wire MCP servers into an agent so it can read Ionic/Capacitor docs, run Capacitor CLI commands, manage Capgo, and drive Xcode.

## When to Use

TRIGGER when the user:
- asks to "add an MCP server" / "connect Claude/Cursor to Capacitor, Ionic, Capgo or Xcode"
- mentions `awesome-ionic-mcp`, `api.capgo.app/mcp`, `@capgo/cli mcp`, `xcrun mcpbridge`, `claude mcp add`, `.cursor/mcp.json`, `.vscode/mcp.json`, `claude_desktop_config.json`
- has an MCP server that fails to start, shows no tools, asks to sign in, or hits a rate limit

Do not use for:
- uploading bundles, channels, rollouts, native builds as a task: `capgo-cloud`, `capgo-cli-usage`, `capgo-live-updates`, `capgo-native-builds`
- finding or installing a plugin: `capacitor-plugins`
- runtime bugs and crashes: `debugging-capacitor`; device logs: `ios-android-logs`
- Ionic component design and theming: `ionic-design`

## Pick the Server

| Need | Server | Transport |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ionic component APIs/demos, Capacitor plugin docs, run `ionic`/`cap` commands | `awesome-ionic-mcp` (community, npm) | stdio via `npx` |
| Capgo account: apps, bundles, channels, rollouts, devices, stats, build status/logs, webhooks, push | Capgo hosted MCP `https://api.capgo.app/mcp` | streamable HTTP, OAuth or API key |
| Upload a bundle from `dist/`, request a native build, `doctor`, `probe`, compatibility check | Capgo local CLI MCP `npx @capgo/cli@latest mcp` | stdio |
| Build/run the iOS project, read Xcode issues, Xcode tools | Xcode MCP `xcrun mcpbridge` (Xcode 26.3+, verified on Xcode 27.1) | stdio |

The Capgo hosted and local servers are complementary: hosted cannot read local files; local needs `npx @capgo/cli@latest login` first. Setup guide for both: https://capgo.app/mcp
