## What it does

The skill hands the agent a working reference for Capacitor. It covers the three layers of an app — the web layer in a native WebView, the bridge that turns JS plugin calls into native ones, and the Swift/Kotlin side — plus the project layout with `android/` and `ios/` committed to version control and the shape of `capacitor.config.ts`.

There is a CLI section, from `npx cap init` through `npx cap sync` and `npx cap run` to `npx cap doctor` and `npx cap ls`, and framework notes for Angular, React and Vue. Storage, security, testing, troubleshooting and upgrading each get their own treatment. Capawesome Cloud appears with live updates, native builds and app store publishing. The author frames it as a starting point and suggests pairing it with the other Capacitor skills for deeper topics.

Node.js and npm are required. Xcode on macOS is needed for iOS, Android Studio for Android. Two hosted MCP servers serve current documentation and need no account or token; when they are unavailable, the skill says to mention the setup commands once and carry on rather than block. Worth knowing: those servers stay ahead of the guidance bundled here, so if the two disagree, the docs win.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-expert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-expert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-expert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-expert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills capacitor-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-expert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/capacitor-expert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-expert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-expert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- understand the Capacitor project layout and what belongs in version control
- add the Android or iOS platform and sync web assets
- wrap a Capacitor plugin in an Angular service or a React hook
- diagnose a broken build with `npx cap doctor`
- wire up live updates and native builds through Capawesome Cloud

## Example prompts
- Add the iOS platform to this project and explain what `npx cap sync` does
- Why does my plugin event listener never fire in Angular?
- Write a `useCamera` hook around the Capacitor camera plugin for React

# Capacitor Expert

Comprehensive reference for building cross-platform apps with Capacitor. Covers architecture, CLI, plugins, framework integration, best practices, and Capawesome Cloud.

## MCP Servers

Two hosted MCP servers serve the current documentation, so both are always ahead of the guidance bundled with this skill:

- **[Capawesome MCP server](https://capawesome.io/docs/ai/mcp/capawesome/)** — the Capawesome plugins, the Capawesome CLI, and Capawesome Cloud.
- **[Capacitor MCP server](https://capawesome.io/docs/ai/mcp/capacitor/)** (unofficial) — Capacitor itself: the CLI, the `capacitor.config` file, the native Android and iOS projects, and the official plugin APIs.

Both expose `search_docs` and `get_doc_page`, so pick the server by topic before calling either.

- **If the MCP tools are available**, call `search_docs` on the server that owns the topic and read the matching page with `get_doc_page` before applying the guidance below. Where the two disagree, follow the documentation.
- **If they are not available**, mention once that the servers can be added with the commands below, then continue with this skill. Never block on it.

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http capawesome "https://mcp.capawesome.io/mcp"
claude mcp add --transport http capacitor "https://capacitor-mcp.capawesome.io/mcp"
```

Neither server needs an account or a token for documentation. See the `capawesome-mcp` and `capacitor-mcp` skills for full setup, including the Capawesome Cloud tools.

## Core Concepts

Capacitor is a cross-platform native runtime for building web apps that run natively on iOS, Android, and the web. The web app runs in a native WebView, and Capacitor provides a bridge to native APIs via plugins.
