## What it does

This skill configures deep link routing for Capacitor web apps using `@capacitor/app`. It implements both `appUrlOpen` listeners and `App.getLaunchUrl()` calls, preventing lost URLs during cold app launches. It also normalizes custom scheme URLs, where the first segment parses as a host rather than a path.

In Capacitor 8.5 and newer, adding `UIApplicationSceneManifest` disables legacy `AppDelegate` open-url methods. The skill shifts link handling into `SceneDelegate.swift` so incoming URLs still reach the JavaScript layer. It provides testing commands using `simctl` and `adb` to verify both warm and cold launches on actual devices.

You need `@capacitor/app` installed in your project. Full migration of `AppDelegate` or push notification routing is outside its scope and belongs in separate skills.

## Requirements
- Works with: Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-deep-linking -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-deep-linking -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-deep-linking -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills capacitor-deep-linking
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-deep-linking -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/capacitor-deep-linking
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-deep-linking -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-deep-linking/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure custom URL schemes and verified domain links for iOS and Android
- fix missing launch URLs on cold starts using `App.getLaunchUrl()`
- move link handling logic to `SceneDelegate` for Capacitor 8.5+
- restore OAuth and magic link redirects that drop into the browser

## Example prompts
- Configure deep linking with a custom scheme and verify cold launch handling.
- Fix deep links routing to Safari instead of opening my Capacitor app.
- Update my iOS link handlers to work with SceneDelegate after upgrading Capacitor.

name: capacitor-deep-linking
description: Implements and debugs deep links in Capacitor apps - custom URL schemes, iOS Universal Links (apple-app-site-association, Associated Domains entitlement), Android App Links (assetlinks.json, autoVerify), and routing via @capacitor/app `appUrlOpen` + `App.getLaunchUrl()`. Covers the Capacitor 8.5+ UIScene change where AppDelegate `application(_:open:options:)` and `continue userActivity` stop being called and custom handling must move to SceneDelegate, plus cold vs warm launch testing. Use when links open Safari/Chrome instead of the app, `appUrlOpen` never fires, the launch URL is lost on cold start, or OAuth redirects do not return to the app. Do not use for the full UIScene migration (capacitor-uiscene-migration), push notification taps (capacitor-push-notifications), or social login plugin setup (capacitor-plugins).

# Deep Linking in Capacitor

Route custom-scheme links, iOS Universal Links, and Android App Links into the web app.

## When to Use

TRIGGER when:
- Adding `myapp://` schemes, Universal Links, or App Links to a Capacitor app
- Links open the browser instead of the app, or open the app but land on the home page
- `appUrlOpen` fires on warm open but the URL is missing on cold launch (or the reverse)
- Deep links broke after updating to Capacitor 8.5+ / adopting `SceneDelegate.swift`
- OAuth / magic-link / payment redirects must come back into the app
- `adb shell pm get-app-links` shows `none` or `1024` instead of `verified`

Do not use:
- Full AppDelegate -> SceneDelegate migration of an app: `capacitor-uiscene-migration`
- Notification tap routing: `capacitor-push-notifications`
- Native log capture while debugging: `ios-android-logs`
- Sign in with Apple / Google plugin config: `capacitor-plugins`

## Link Types

| Type | Platform | Format | Needs hosted file | Verified ownership |
|------|----------|--------|-------------------|--------------------|
| Custom scheme | both | `myapp://product/123` | no | no (any app can claim it) |
| Universal Links | iOS | `https://example.com/product/123` | `/.well-known/apple-app-site-association` | yes |
| App Links | Android 6+ | `https://example.com/product/123` | `/.well-known/assetlinks.json` | yes |

Prefer verified https links for anything security-sensitive (OAuth, magic links). Custom schemes can be hijacked by another app.

## Workflow

1. **Inspect first.** Read `capacitor.config.*`, `ios/App/App/Info.plist`, `ios/App/App/*.entitlements`, `ios/App/App/AppDelegate.swift`, `ios/App/App/SceneDelegate.swift` (if present), `android/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml`, and the `@capacitor/app` version in `package.json`.
2. **Decide the iOS lifecycle path.**
