## What it does

This skill guides agents through existing Capacitor codebases. It inspects the project structure, checking for `android/` and `ios/` folders, the `@capacitor/core` package version, and tool configs like Vite or Next.js. The agent then pulls targeted reference material instead of spitting out generic advice.

Guidance covers `capacitor.config.ts`, Android safe area rules, edge-to-edge layout, deep links, storage options, and live reload setups. It also provides exact fixes for failed `npx cap sync` runs and Gradle build errors.

You need Xcode on macOS for iOS targets, and Android Studio for Android. The skill expects an initialized Capacitor project. It does not scaffold new apps or write framework-specific React and Angular code.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-app-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-app-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-app-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-app-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install capawesome-team/skills capacitor-app-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-app-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills --path skills/capacitor-app-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add capawesome-team/skills --skill capacitor-app-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/capawesome-team/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/capacitor-app-development/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure live reload for testing on physical mobile hardware
- resolve plugin synchronization errors during `npx cap sync`
- implement Android edge-to-edge displays and safe area handling
- set up deep links and universal links for iOS and Android

## Example prompts
- Configure live reload in capacitor.config.ts for my local network IP.
- Fix the Gradle build failure in android/ after adding the latest plugins.
- Show me how to handle Android safe area insets and edge-to-edge layout.

# Capacitor App Development

General guidance for developing cross-platform apps with Capacitor, covering core concepts, CLI usage, app configuration, platform management, and troubleshooting.

## Prerequisites

1. **Capacitor 6, 7, or 8** app already created and initialized.
2. Node.js and npm installed (Node 18+ for Cap 6, Node 20+ for Cap 7, Node 22+ for Cap 8).
3. For **Android**: Android Studio installed.
4. For **iOS**: Xcode installed on macOS.

## Agent Behavior

- **Auto-detect before asking.** Inspect the project for platforms (`android/`, `ios/`), framework (`vite.config.ts`, `angular.json`, `webpack.config.js`, `next.config.js`), Capacitor version (`@capacitor/core` in `package.json`), and iOS dependency manager (`ios/App/Podfile` for CocoaPods vs. SPM).
- **Route to the right reference file.** Use the topic index below to identify the correct reference file and read it before providing guidance.
- **One topic at a time.** Address the user's specific question. Do not provide a general overview unless explicitly requested.
- **Prefer actionable instructions.** Provide exact file paths, commands, and diff blocks rather than conceptual explanations.

## Procedures

### Step 1: Identify the Topic

Match the user's request to a topic from the index below. If the request spans multiple topics, address them sequentially.

If the request matches a topic covered by a **different skill**, redirect the user to that skill (see Related Skills at the bottom).

### Step 2: Analyze the Project

Auto-detect the following by reading project files:

1. **Capacitor version**: Read `@capacitor/core` version from `package.json`.
2. **Platforms**: Check which directories exist (`android/`, `ios/`).
3. **Framework**: Check for build tool config files.
