## What it does

Capacitor renders web content inside WKWebView and Android WebView, so plain semantic HTML and ARIA carry most of the weight. This skill covers the places where the WebView and the native layer stop behaving like a browser: iOS ignores Dynamic Type, Android WebView scales text on its own and breaks fixed-height layouts at large sizes, SPA route changes go unannounced, and native maps or camera previews sitting under the WebView stay out of reach for a screen reader.

The procedure is ordered. Inventory the screens into a list, run axe against the web build, then test each screen on a device with VoiceOver and TalkBack at the largest text size, Reduce Motion on, and a Bluetooth keyboard. After that come the Capacitor-specific traps: `@capacitor/screen-reader` and `@capacitor/text-zoom`, `zoomEnabled` and `user-scalable=no`, focus after a native modal closes, touch target sizes. Findings map to WCAG 2.2 criteria.

One trap bites hardest. Turn on both the CSS `-apple-system-body` rule and `TextZoom.set` and iOS scales your text twice. Pick one. On iPad, `TextZoom` does nothing until you set `ios.preferredContentMode: 'mobile'` in `capacitor.config.*`. Ionic component styling, notch layout, keyboard overlap and test framework setup live in other skills — this one does not cover them.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-accessibility -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/capacitor-accessibility/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/capacitor-accessibility/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-accessibility -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/capacitor-accessibility/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-accessibility -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/capacitor-accessibility/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills capacitor-accessibility
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/capacitor-accessibility/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-accessibility -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/capacitor-accessibility
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/capacitor-accessibility/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill capacitor-accessibility -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- audit screens against WCAG 2.2
- fix layouts that overflow at large Android font sizes
- make text follow iOS Larger Text
- announce SPA route changes to a screen reader
- expose a native map or camera preview to VoiceOver

## Example prompts
- run an accessibility audit on the auth and main tab screens
- text does not grow with iOS Larger Text — what do I set in Capacitor
- TalkBack stays silent after a route change, add an announcement

name: capacitor-accessibility
description: Makes Capacitor apps work with VoiceOver, TalkBack, Dynamic Type / Android font scale, Switch Control, hardware keyboards, Reduce Motion and Increase Contrast. Covers Capacitor-specific gaps - WKWebView not following iOS Dynamic Type, Android WebView text zoom breaking layouts, zoomEnabled/user-scalable, SPA route changes not announced, native views under the WebView (maps, camera preview) being unreachable, @capacitor/screen-reader (isEnabled, speak, stateChange) and @capacitor/text-zoom (getPreferred, set) - plus testing with Accessibility Inspector, simctl content_size, adb font_scale, TalkBack and axe-core, mapped to WCAG 2.2. Do not use for Ionic component styling (use ionic-design), notch/home-indicator layout (use safe-area-handling), keyboard overlap bugs (use capacitor-keyboard), automated test framework setup (use capacitor-testing), or App Store metadata (use capacitor-app-store).

# Accessibility in Capacitor Apps

The UI is web content inside WKWebView / Android WebView, so standard semantic HTML and ARIA do most of the work. This skill covers where the WebView and native layers behave differently from a browser.

## When to Use

TRIGGER when:
- User asks for VoiceOver/TalkBack support, an accessibility audit, WCAG 2.2 / EAA / ADA compliance.
- Text does not grow with iOS Larger Text, or the layout breaks at large Android font sizes.
- Screen reader does not announce page changes, toasts, or loading states.
- A native view (map, camera preview, video player) cannot be reached by the screen reader.
- User wants `@capacitor/screen-reader` or `@capacitor/text-zoom`.

Do not use:
- Ionic component APIs/theming -> `ionic-design`; Konsta/Tailwind -> `konsta-ui`, `tailwind-capacitor`.
- Content under notch/home indicator -> `safe-area-handling`.
- Keyboard covering inputs -> `capacitor-keyboard`.
- E2E test infrastructure -> `capacitor-testing`.

## Procedure

1. **Inventory screens** into a TODO list (auth, main tabs, forms, modals, media, settings). Audit one at a time.
2. **Automated pass** on the web build: run axe (`@axe-core/playwright` in tests, or `npx @axe-core/cli@latest http://localhost:5173`) and fix violations first (names, roles, contrast, labels).
