## What it does

The skill walks the migration step by step and won't let you delete Appflow before each replacement is verified. It starts with an inventory: where the repo uses `@capacitor/live-updates` or `cordova-plugin-ionic`, what channels and update method sit in `plugins.LiveUpdates`, whether code calls `sync()` or `reload()`, and which deploy keys live in `config.xml`, `Info.plist` or `strings.xml`. Native builds and store deploys that ran through the dashboard get listed too.

Then the package swaps to `@capgo/capacitor-updater`, the `LiveUpdates` block in `capacitor.config.ts` gives way to `CapacitorUpdater`, and a mapping table shows what replaces `appId`, `channel`, `autoUpdateMethod` and `maxVersions`. One call has to land in the app shell: `CapacitorUpdater.notifyAppReady()`. Skip it and Capgo treats the bundle as broken and rolls it back — the usual reason a migration looks done while updates never arrive.

For builds and publishing the skill offers either Capgo Cloud Build or the repo's own CI, and it tells you to export signing credentials from Appflow before deleting anything there. Ionic stopped selling Appflow in February 2025; existing customers keep access until December 31, 2027, with no new features. Ionic Enterprise plugins and Capawesome Cloud have their own skills, and a greenfield Capgo setup is out of scope here.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill ionic-appflow-migration -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill ionic-appflow-migration -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill ionic-appflow-migration -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Cap-go/capgo-skills ionic-appflow-migration
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill ionic-appflow-migration -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills --path skills/ionic-appflow-migration
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Cap-go/capgo-skills --skill ionic-appflow-migration -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Cap-go/capgo-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ionic-appflow-migration/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- get a project off Ionic Appflow before access ends
- swap `@capacitor/live-updates` for `@capgo/capacitor-updater`
- carry channels and update method over to Capgo config
- export signing certificates and keystores before deleting Appflow
- move store builds and uploads into repo-owned CI

## Example prompts
- Inventory the Appflow usage in this repo and list what has to change
- Migrate live updates from `@capacitor/live-updates` to Capgo and drop the `LiveUpdates` block from `capacitor.config.ts`
- Replace Appflow builds with GitHub Actions, keeping certificates and env vars as they are

description: Migrates an Ionic or Capacitor project off Ionic Appflow (access ends Dec 31, 2027). Use when the repo contains @capacitor/live-updates, cordova-plugin-ionic, a plugins.LiveUpdates block (appId, channel, autoUpdateMethod, maxVersions), LiveUpdates.sync()/reload() calls, ionic deploy or appflow CLI commands, .io-config.json, or Appflow build/store-deploy workflows, and the user wants Capgo live updates, Capgo Cloud Build or repo-owned CI builds, and repo-owned store publishing. Maps Appflow channels, update strategies, and API calls to @capgo/capacitor-updater. Do not use for Ionic Enterprise plugins such as Identity Vault, Auth Connect, or Secure Storage (ionic-enterprise-sdk-migration), Capawesome live updates (capawesome-live-update-migration), or a fresh Capgo setup with no Appflow history (capgo-live-updates).

# Ionic Appflow Migration

Replace each Appflow feature the project uses - Live Updates, native cloud builds, store deployment - and remove Appflow only after each replacement is verified.

Context: Ionic stopped selling Appflow in February 2025; existing customers keep access until December 31, 2027 with no new features. Plan the migration well before that date.

## When to Use

TRIGGER when:
- `package.json` has `@capacitor/live-updates` or `cordova-plugin-ionic`.
- `capacitor.config.*` has `plugins.LiveUpdates`, or `config.xml` / `Info.plist` / `strings.xml` hold Appflow deploy keys (`APP_ID`, `CHANNEL_NAME`, `UPDATE_METHOD`, `IonAppId`, `IonChannelName`).
- CI calls `ionic deploy`, `appflow`, `ionic package build`, or the Appflow dashboard triggers builds and store uploads.

Do not use for:
- `@ionic-enterprise/*` plugins -> `ionic-enterprise-sdk-migration`.
- Capawesome Cloud -> `capawesome-live-update-migration`.
- Greenfield Capgo setup -> `capgo-live-updates`.
