# candidate-sourcing

Runs the whole hiring loop: finds engineers, verifies their profile URLs, tracks down emails, writes personal outreach and leaves Gmail drafts ready to send.

## What it does

The skill works in five phases, each feeding the next. You start by pinning down the company and the role: what the company does, its stage, location, the sender's name for the signature, the must-have skills and how many candidates you want this batch. Search then runs on technical output rather than job titles — papers, repos, talks, public technical opinions.

Profile URLs get verified through Crustdata instead of guessed. That matters: slugs like `david-park-086833264` are auto-generated and can't be derived from a name, so a made-up URL often 404s or lands on the wrong person. Lookups go in order, starting with `person_search` and falling back to past employers, stopping at the first confident match. Emails come next, first via Crustdata enrichment, then from public commit history.

You need Crustdata MCP access: people search runs through the `execute` tool in Code Mode, web lookups through `web_search_live`. Drafts land in Gmail and you click send yourself. If only one part of the pipeline is needed, use `engineering-candidate-finder`, `contact-email-enricher` or `candidate-copy-drafter` on their own.

## Requirements
- Works with: Gmail, LinkedIn

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add crustdata/skills --skill candidate-sourcing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/candidate-sourcing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add crustdata/skills --skill candidate-sourcing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add crustdata/skills --skill candidate-sourcing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install crustdata/skills candidate-sourcing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add crustdata/skills --skill candidate-sourcing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/crustdata/skills --path skills/candidate-sourcing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add crustdata/skills --skill candidate-sourcing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/crustdata/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/candidate-sourcing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a shortlist of engineers for one role
- verify profile URLs instead of guessing slugs
- track down a candidate's work email
- write outreach that cites the candidate's own work
- stage Gmail drafts ready for sending

## Example prompts
- Find 5 ML engineers who've published on retrieval-augmented generation and draft outreach to each
- Source backend engineers in Berlin for our Series A team
- Build a candidate pipeline for a founding designer role

  candidates AND reaching out. Covers the entire loop — use individual skills
  (engineering-candidate-finder, contact-email-enricher, candidate-copy-drafter) only when
  the user wants just one part of the pipeline.

# Candidate Sourcing Pipeline

An end-to-end skill that takes a hiring role and produces ready-to-send Gmail drafts for
strong candidates — handling discovery, profile URL verification, email enrichment, personalized
copy, and draft creation in one continuous workflow.

The pipeline has five phases. Each phase feeds into the next, and the skill is designed to
run them in sequence with minimal human intervention. The user reviews the final Gmail
drafts and clicks send.

---

## Phase 1: Define the search and find candidates

### Clarify the role and company

Before searching, extract or confirm these details from the user. **Do not assume any of these — always ask if not provided:**

**About the hiring company (needed for outreach in Phase 4):**
- Company name
- What the company does (1-2 sentences)
- Stage/traction (e.g., "Series A, $10M raised" or "500-person public company")
- Location / remote policy
- The sender's name and title (for the email signature)

**About the role and ideal candidate:**
- The role title (e.g., "Founding ML Engineer")
- 2-3 core technical problems the role involves
- Target companies, research labs, or communities to search
```
