## What it does

c-video provides command patterns for `yt-dlp` and `ffmpeg`. It fetches media from YouTube or Vimeo. You can request the best available stream or cap the resolution.

For audio extraction, the skill relies on the `-x` flag in `yt-dlp`. This saves an MP3 file directly without downloading video frames. Local processing covers `ffmpeg` tasks such as trimming clips with `-c copy` and resizing video dimensions.

Both `yt-dlp` and `ffmpeg` must be present in PATH. Outdated `yt-dlp` builds fail when platforms change their video players. Keep it updated with `pip install -U yt-dlp`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-video -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/c-video/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/c-video/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-video -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/c-video/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-video -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/c-video/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daxaur/openpaw c-video
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/c-video/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-video -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daxaur/openpaw --path skills/c-video
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/c-video/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-video -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- download online video streams at a specified resolution
- extract audio directly into MP3 format without saving video files
- trim video clips by start time and duration without re-encoding
- convert video files between formats like MP4 and WebM
- resize video dimensions using ffmpeg filters

## Example prompts
- Download this YouTube video in 1080p: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ID
- Extract audio from https://youtube.com/watch?v=ID directly into ~/Downloads as an MP3
- Cut input.mp4 starting at 00:01:30 for 45 seconds using copy mode

## What This Skill Does

Enables Claude to download online videos, extract audio tracks, convert between formats, and cut/clip video segments using `yt-dlp` and `ffmpeg`.

## Available CLI Tools

### `yt-dlp` — Video Downloading

```bash
# Download a video (best quality)
yt-dlp "https://youtube.com/watch?v=ID"
# Download audio only as MP3
yt-dlp -x --audio-format mp3 "https://youtube.com/watch?v=ID"
# Download specific format/resolution
yt-dlp -f "bestvideo[height<=1080]+bestaudio" "URL"
# Download to specific output path
yt-dlp -o "~/Downloads/%(title)s.%(ext)s" "URL"
# List available formats
yt-dlp -F "URL"
```

### `ffmpeg` — Processing & Conversion

```bash
# Convert video format
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 output.webm
# Extract audio from video
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vn -acodec mp3 output.mp3
# Clip a segment (start time, duration)
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -ss 00:01:30 -t 00:00:45 -c copy clip.mp4
# Resize video
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf scale=1280:720 output.mp4
```

## Usage Guidelines

- Confirm the output directory before downloading large files
- Use `-x` with `yt-dlp` for audio-only extraction instead of downloading video first

## Notes

- Only download content you have rights to use
- `yt-dlp` may need periodic updates: `pip install -U yt-dlp`
