# c-tasks

A skill that handles tasks across Todoist, Things 3 and Taskwarrior. It figures out which manager you have installed and works through that one.

## What it does

The skill covers the everyday loop of a task list: create an item, see what is due today, mark something done, narrow the list by project or label. It ships with commands for three CLIs — `todoist-cli`, `things-cli` and `task`. On the first run it checks `which todoist-cli things-cli task` to see what is actually on the machine, then sticks to what it finds.

With more than one manager present, the skill asks which you want or picks one based on what you are asking for. Natural-language dates are handled by Todoist and Things 3 on their own. Taskwarrior wants them spelled out, as `due:YYYY-MM-DD` or `due:tomorrow`.

Setup differs by tool. Todoist needs an API token, configured with `todoist-cli auth`. Things 3 runs only on macOS and needs the Things 3 app installed. Taskwarrior keeps its tasks locally in `~/.task/`. Skip the token and Todoist commands go nowhere, so check that first.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-tasks -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/c-tasks/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/c-tasks/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-tasks -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/c-tasks/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-tasks -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/c-tasks/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daxaur/openpaw c-tasks
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/c-tasks/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-tasks -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daxaur/openpaw --path skills/c-tasks
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/c-tasks/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-tasks -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- add a Todoist task due today
- see today's list in Things 3
- mark a Taskwarrior task done by id
- filter tasks by project or tag
- search tasks by name

## Example prompts
- Add a task called “Team sync” to the Work project with priority 2
- Show me overdue tasks in Taskwarrior
- Complete task id 12

description: Manage tasks across Todoist (todoist-cli), Things 3 (things-cli), and Taskwarrior (task). Detects which tool is installed. Supports adding, listing, completing, and filtering tasks across all three managers.

This skill supports three task managers. Detect which is available with `which todoist-cli things-cli task` and use accordingly.

## Todoist — `todoist-cli`

```bash
todoist-cli list                           # List today's tasks
todoist-cli list --project "Work"          # Tasks in a project
todoist-cli add "Task name" --due today --priority 2
todoist-cli add "Task" --project "Work" --label "urgent"
todoist-cli complete <task-id>
todoist-cli delete <task-id>
todoist-cli projects                       # List all projects
todoist-cli search "query"
```

## Things 3 — `things-cli`

```bash
things-cli today                           # Today's tasks
things-cli list                            # All tasks
things-cli list --area "Work"
things-cli add "Task name" --when today --tag "urgent"
things-cli add "Task" --project "Project Name" --deadline "2026-03-01"
things-cli complete "Task name"
things-cli projects                        # List projects
things-cli areas                           # List areas
```

## Taskwarrior — `task`

```bash
task list                                  # List pending tasks
task next                                  # Highest-priority next task
task add "Task name" due:tomorrow pri:H project:work
task add "Task" +tag1 +tag2
task <id> done                             # Complete a task
task <id> delete
task <id> modify priority:H
task project:work list                     # Filter by project
task +OVERDUE list                         # Overdue tasks
task summary                               # Project summary
```

## Usage Guidelines

- Check which tool is installed before running commands.
- If multiple are installed, ask the user which they prefer or use the one matching their request context.
- For natural language dates, Todoist and Things handle them natively; Taskwarrior uses `due:YYYY-MM-DD` or `due:tomorrow`.

## Notes

- Todoist requires API token configured via `todoist-cli auth`.
- Things 3 requires macOS and the Things 3 app.
- Taskwarrior stores tasks locally in `~/.task/`.
