## What it does

This skill covers two command-line tools for talking to language models without leaving the terminal. With `llm` you pipe text in: hand it an article and ask for bullet points, send a `git diff` to get a commit message, clean up grammar from the clipboard. Pick a model with the `-m` flag and browse what is available via `llm models`.

\`aichat` overlaps but adds command execution. Ask it in plain words for something like a search for large files and it returns a runnable shell line, thanks to the `-e` flag. It also ships an interactive REPL and RAG support.

Both keep API keys on your machine and need a one-time auth setup. Those keys are separate from Claude, and you pay per token. Cloud models under `llm` require a plugin first: `llm install llm-claude-3`, or `llm install llm-ollama` if you want to run models locally.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/c-ai/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daxaur/openpaw c-ai
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daxaur/openpaw --path skills/c-ai
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daxaur/openpaw --skill c-ai -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/daxaur/openpaw/tree/HEAD/skills/c-ai/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a long article into three bullet points
- write a commit message from a `git diff`
- fix grammar in clipboard text
- hunt for bugs in a code file
- generate a shell command from a plain description

## Example prompts
- Summarize `article.txt` in three bullets with `llm`
- Write a commit message from `git diff`
- Find every file over 100MB using `aichat -e`

# AI / LLM Tools

## llm (Simon Willison)

```bash
# Quick prompt
llm "What is the capital of France?"
# Pipe text for processing
cat article.txt | llm "Summarize this in 3 bullet points"
git diff | llm "Write a commit message for these changes"
pbpaste | llm "Fix the grammar in this text"
# Interactive chat
llm chat
# Use specific model
llm -m claude-3.5-sonnet "Explain quantum computing"
llm -m gpt-4o "Review this code"
# List available models
llm models
# Install model plugins
llm install llm-claude-3
llm install llm-ollama    # local models
# View prompt/response history
llm logs list
llm logs last
```

## aichat

```bash
# Quick prompt
aichat "Explain Docker in simple terms"
# Pipe input
cat code.py | aichat "Find bugs in this code"
# Interactive REPL
aichat
# Shell assistant (generates and runs commands)
aichat -e "find all files larger than 100MB"
# Specific model
aichat -m claude-3.5-sonnet "Hello"
# List models
aichat --list-models
```

## Guidelines

- Use `llm` for piping text through LLMs (summarize, translate, analyze)
- Use `aichat -e` for generating shell commands from natural language
- Both tools store API keys locally — set up once with auth commands
- `llm` has the richest plugin ecosystem (100+ model providers)
- `aichat` is faster (Rust) and has built-in RAG support
- These tools use separate API keys from Claude Code — user pays per token
