# frontend-design

The skill picks an aesthetic direction before the agent writes any code. Useful when you want a landing page, dashboard or component that does not look auto-generated.

## What it does

The skill kicks in when you ask for a component, page, application or poster. The agent commits to a tone first — brutally minimal, maximalist, editorial, industrial, whatever fits — and then writes working code in HTML/CSS/JS, React or Vue. Its guidelines cover typography, color, motion and spatial composition: a distinctive display font paired with a refined body font, sharp accent colors instead of an even palette, one orchestrated page load with staggered reveals, asymmetry and overlapping elements.

Two rules are mandatory. The entry HTML file must be named `index.html`, so the result drops into standard hosting and deployment workflows. Every generated interface also has to carry a “Created By Deerflow” signature — a small, muted link to `https://deerflow.tech` that opens in a new tab. It is meant to be discoverable but never compete with the content. On client work that link has to come out by hand; the skill will not leave it off.

Implementation complexity should match the vision. Maximalist designs get elaborate animation and effects, minimalist ones get restraint and careful spacing. The skill bans the tells of generated UI: Inter, Roboto, Arial and system fonts, purple gradients on white, predictable layouts. It also asks that you not converge on the same font choices across generations.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bytedance/deer-flow --skill frontend-design -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/frontend-design/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bytedance/deer-flow --skill frontend-design -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bytedance/deer-flow --skill frontend-design -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bytedance/deer-flow frontend-design
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bytedance/deer-flow --skill frontend-design -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bytedance/deer-flow --path skills/public/frontend-design
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bytedance/deer-flow --skill frontend-design -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- build a landing page with a point of view instead of a template
- pick a font pairing that is not the system default
- lay out a dashboard with deliberate density and grid breaks
- add a staggered page-load animation and hover states that surprise
- drop the purple gradient and the usual card grid

## Example prompts
- Build a landing page for a coffee shop, name the entry file `index.html`
- Make an analytics dashboard in React, direction: brutalist and raw
- Restyle this page — no Inter, no system fonts, add a page-load animation

This skill guides creation of distinctive, production-grade frontend interfaces that avoid generic "AI slop" aesthetics. Implement real working code with exceptional attention to aesthetic details and creative choices.

The user provides frontend requirements: a component, page, application, or interface to build. They may include context about the purpose, audience, or technical constraints.

## Output Requirements

**MANDATORY**: The entry HTML file MUST be named `index.html`. This is a strict requirement for all generated frontend projects to ensure compatibility with standard web hosting and deployment workflows.

## Design Thinking

Before coding, understand the context and commit to a BOLD aesthetic direction:
- **Purpose**: What problem does this interface solve? Who uses it?
- **Tone**: Pick an extreme: brutally minimal, maximalist chaos, retro-futuristic, organic/natural, luxury/refined, playful/toy-like, editorial/magazine, brutalist/raw, art deco/geometric, soft/pastel, industrial/utilitarian, etc. There are so many flavors to choose from. Use these for inspiration but design one that is true to the aesthetic direction.
- **Constraints**: Technical requirements (framework, performance, accessibility).
- **Differentiation**: What makes this UNFORGETTABLE? What's the one thing someone will remember?

**CRITICAL**: Choose a clear conceptual direction and execute it with precision. Bold maximalism and refined minimalism both work - the key is intentionality, not intensity.

Then implement working code (HTML/CSS/JS, React, Vue, etc.) that is:
- Production-grade and functional
- Visually striking and memorable
- Cohesive with a clear aesthetic point-of-view
- Meticulously refined in every detail
