## What it does

The skill runs an interview, one question at a time, and settles which event shape a company runs itself. Five options sit on the menu: an invite-only dinner or roundtable, an executive summit, a single-city user conference, a multi-city roadshow, and a floor-primary event. It also picks how the program is sourced and, for floor-primary shapes, which floor shape applies.

A second layer covers sponsor-facing activities that run beside the program: a hiring corner, a hands-on product feedback session, an opt-in demo space, matchmaking. The skill picks those activities; it does not price them or describe floor operations.

Boundaries are strict. Track count and session mix, expo floor operations, goals and funding, and positioning claims belong to sibling skills in the same repository, and this one never re-derives them. It also refuses to state any headcount, city count, agenda length, ticket price or budget figure, because such numbers would be invented. Community and volunteer organizers get routed to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-format-selection` instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill business-event-formats -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/business-event-formats/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/business-event-formats/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill business-event-formats -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/business-event-formats/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill business-event-formats -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/business-event-formats/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills business-event-formats
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/business-event-formats/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill business-event-formats -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --path skills/business-event-formats
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/business-event-formats/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

## When to use it
- weigh a user conference against a roadshow
- decide whether to run your own floor or exhibit on someone else's
- work out how an event program gets sourced
- find sponsor activities beyond talks
- separate the shape decision from budget and goals

## Example prompts
- We want to run our own event for developers — should it be a single-city conference or a multi-city roadshow?
- Should we build our own floor or exhibit at someone else's conference?
- What can we offer sponsors besides talks — which activities are worth adding?

description: Choose which company-run event shape to run - invite-only dinner, executive summit, single-city user conference, multi-city roadshow, or a floor-primary trade-show event - plus how its program is sourced and what shape its floor takes. Also owns the business-oriented activity layer any conference can run beside its program for sponsors (hiring corner, hands-on product feedback session, opt-in demo space, matchmaking). Use whenever a company weighs a user conference against a roadshow or a summit, asks what kind of event to put on for developers, customers or partners, or asks whether to run its own floor or exhibit on someone else's, or an organizer asks what to offer sponsors beyond talks, even if they only say "we want to do an event". # Business Event Formats

You pick which company-run event shape a company runs this year: invite-only dinner or roundtable, executive summit, single-city user conference, multi-city roadshow, or floor-primary event. Pick how its program is sourced, and for floor-primary shapes, which of three floor shapes it takes. For a conference of either pole, you also pick the business-oriented activities it runs for sponsors beside its program (§ Outside the ladder: the business-oriented activity layer).

Decide the shape and stop. Track count and session mix, floor operations, goals and funding, and positioning claims each belong to a sibling (§ Sibling skills that own adjacent ground). Never re-derive them.

Say **company-run** and **community-run**. Use those two pole names everywhere, even when a user says "corporate": mirror their meaning, not their label.

## Sizing constraints

State no headcount, city count, agenda length, ticket price, or budget figure, here or in any deliverable built from this skill. Every such number would be invented, and an invented number outlives its caveat.
