## What it does

The skill takes a CSV of transactions, revenue or sales, with columns for dates, amounts, categories or products. It computes the statistics: mean and median values, growth rates, volatility. From those numbers it flags underperforming segments and categories that drag the totals down.

A bundled script does the heavy lifting. Run `python scripts/analyze_business_data.py path/to/business_data.csv output_report.json` and it detects the data structure, calculates metrics and writes a JSON report with findings, weak_areas and improvement_strategies sections. You need Python with pandas installed.

Recommendations come from business frameworks in `references/business_frameworks.md`, not from guesswork. Optional Plotly charts cover revenue trends, category contribution and a heatmap of weak areas. The final report is assembled from `assets/report_template.html`. No date column in your CSV means no trend analysis — worth checking the file format before you run it.

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill business-analytics-reporter -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/business-analytics-reporter/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/business-analytics-reporter/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill business-analytics-reporter -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/business-analytics-reporter/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill business-analytics-reporter -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/business-analytics-reporter/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/business-analytics-reporter/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill business-analytics-reporter -a opencode
```
## When to use it
- spot categories that underperform on revenue
- calculate growth rates and sales volatility
- break statistics down by period and product
- get a strategy list tied to specific weak areas
- build an HTML report with charts for management
## Example prompts
- analyze business_data.csv and tell me where we're lacking
- generate a sales report with charts and recommendations
- run the revenue analysis and show the weak categories
# Business Analytics Reporter
## Overview
Generate comprehensive business performance reports that analyze sales and revenue data, identify areas where the business is lacking, interpret what the statistics indicate, and provide actionable improvement strategies. The skill uses data-driven analysis to detect weak areas and recommends specific strategies backed by business frameworks.
## When to Use This Skill
Invoke this skill when users request:
- "Analyze my business data and tell me where we're lacking"
- "Generate a report on what areas need improvement"
- "What do these sales numbers tell us about our business performance?"
- "Create a business analysis report with improvement strategies"
- "Identify weak areas in our revenue data"
- "What strategies should we use to improve our business metrics?"
The skill expects CSV files containing business data (sales, revenue, transactions) with columns like dates, amounts, categories, or products.
## Core Workflow
### Step 1: Data Loading and Exploration
Start by understanding the data structure and what the user wants to analyze.
**Ask clarifying questions if needed:**
- What specific metrics or areas should the analysis focus on?
- Are there particular time periods or categories of interest?
- Should the report include visualizations or focus on written analysis?
**Load and explore the data:**
```python
import pandas as pd

# Load the CSV file
df = pd.read_csv('business_data.csv')

# Display basic information
print(f"Data shape: {df.shape}")
print(f"Columns: {df.columns.tolist()}")
print(f"Date range: {df['date'].min()} to {df['date'].max()}")
print(df.head())
```
### Step 2: Run Automated Analysis
Use the bundled analysis script to generate comprehensive insights:
```bash
python scripts/analyze_business_data.py path/to/business_data.csv output_report.json
```
The script will:
1. Automatically detect data structure (revenue columns, date columns, categories)
2. Calculate statistical metrics (mean, median, growth rates, volatility)
3. Identify trends and patterns
