## What it does

The skill covers the official `oven/bun` images and their variants: `latest`, `slim`, `alpine`, `distroless`, `debian`. You get a basic Dockerfile, a multi-stage production build that copies only production dependencies, and a compiled-binary path where Bun builds a single executable and a minimal runtime image carries it.

There are compose examples too — an app service next to Postgres with a named volume, plus a dev compose file that mounts `./src` and runs `bun --hot`. Separate sections walk through health checks, build-time `ARG` and runtime `ENV`, layer caching, and a `.dockerignore` list. A short error table maps `bun.lockb not found`, `EACCES permission`, `OOM killed` and `No space left` to their causes.

Security advice is concrete: run as `USER bun`, copy with `--chown=bun:bun`, install with `--frozen-lockfile --production`. That last flag is the catch — the build expects `bun.lockb` to be committed, so run `bun install` locally first or the install step fails. For image size and Kubernetes work the skill points to `references/optimization.md` and `references/kubernetes.md`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Docker

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill bun-docker -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/bun-docker/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/bun-docker/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill bun-docker -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/bun-docker/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill bun-docker -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/bun-docker/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install secondsky/claude-skills bun-docker
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/bun-docker/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill bun-docker -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/secondsky/claude-skills --path plugins/bun/skills/bun-docker
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/bun-docker/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add secondsky/claude-skills --skill bun-docker -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- build a production Bun image without dev dependencies
- get hot reload working inside a container
- run Bun and Postgres together with docker-compose
- shrink image size with a multi-stage build
- compile the app to a single binary and ship it in a minimal runtime

## Example prompts
- write a multi-stage Dockerfile for my Bun app
- add a healthcheck and run the container as non-root
- set up docker-compose with hot reload for development

# Bun Docker

Deploy Bun applications in Docker containers using official images.

## Official Images

```bash
# Latest stable
docker pull oven/bun
# Specific version
docker pull oven/bun:1
# Variants
oven/bun:latest       # Full image (~100MB)
oven/bun:slim         # Minimal image (~80MB)
oven/bun:alpine       # Alpine-based (~50MB)
oven/bun:distroless   # Distroless (~60MB)
oven/bun:debian       # Debian-based (~100MB)
```

## Basic Dockerfile

```dockerfile
FROM oven/bun:1 AS base
WORKDIR /app
# Install dependencies
COPY package.json bun.lockb ./
RUN bun install --frozen-lockfile
# Copy source
COPY . .
# Run
EXPOSE 3000
CMD ["bun", "run", "src/index.ts"]
```

## Multi-Stage Build (Production)

```dockerfile
# Build stage
FROM oven/bun:1 AS builder
WORKDIR /app
COPY package.json bun.lockb ./
RUN bun install --frozen-lockfile
COPY . .
RUN bun run build
# Production stage
FROM oven/bun:1-slim AS production
WORKDIR /app
# Copy only production dependencies
COPY package.json bun.lockb ./
RUN bun install --frozen-lockfile --production
# Copy built assets
COPY --from=builder /app/dist ./dist
# Run as non-root
USER bun
EXPOSE 3000
CMD ["bun", "run", "dist/index.js"]
```

## Alpine Image

```dockerfile
FROM oven/bun:1-alpine
WORKDIR /app
# Alpine uses apk for packages
RUN apk add --no-cache git
COPY package.json bun.lockb ./
