# building-flows

Walks your agent through assembling Celigo flows: schedules, event listeners, record branching and error handling. Useful when the integration is being designed, not fixed.

## What it does

A Celigo flow moves data from source systems to destinations on a schedule, on an event, or when another flow triggers it. The skill lays out the parts: page generators (exports that fetch data) and page processors (imports and lookups that handle each record). Processors run as a flat list or branch out through routers.

Flows start themselves, which is what sets them apart from APIs and tools. A scheduled export runs on a cron cadence and pulls everything, only what changed since the last run, a query result, or files dropped in an FTP/SFTP/S3 folder. A listener waits for the source to push: a webhook fires, or a native NetSuite or Salesforce event triggers, and the payload starts moving right away. Mixing both is common — a listener catches events while an off-peak export reconciles whatever the webhooks missed.

There is a section on a design mistake worth knowing about. If a flow ends on an import that fetches data back from a remote system, response mapping only exposes those fields to the next step. With no next step, the captured data is dropped when the run ends. So a preview or lookup-shaped import needs a write-back import, a named destination, or a router after it. Exact calls depend on how you reach the account: the skill points to separate references for Celigo MCP tools and for the `celigo` CLI.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill building-flows -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/building-flows/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill building-flows -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill building-flows -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install celigo/ai building-flows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill building-flows -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/celigo/ai --path skills/building-flows
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add celigo/ai --skill building-flows -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/celigo/ai/tree/HEAD/skills/building-flows/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a flow from an export and a chain of imports
- switch a nightly full sync to a delta sync
- catch webhook events and back them with a schedule
- route records down different branches
- keep fetched data from being discarded at the end of a run

## Example prompts
- build a flow that exports customers from Salesforce and imports them into NetSuite on a schedule
- add a webhook listener and reconcile missed records overnight
- route new records to one import and updated records to another

# Building Flows

A flow moves data from one or more source systems to one or more destination systems. It runs on a schedule, in response to events (webhooks, listeners), or when triggered by another flow. Flows are the primary way integrations get work done in Celigo.

A flow has **page generators** (exports that fetch data) and **page processors** (imports and lookups that process each record). Processors run sequentially in a flat list, or conditionally through routers that branch records to different paths. These processing pipeline mechanics -- routers, branches, page processors, response mapping -- are shared with APIs and tools (see `building-apis` and `building-tools`).

## How to Run the Steps

This skill names each build step by what it reads or changes; the exact calls depend on how you reach the account. Read the one reference that matches your tools -- both follow the step numbers of How to Build a Flow below, then Duplicate Records and the headings of Flow Operations:

- **Celigo MCP tools** (`list_flows`, `upsert_flow`, `patch_flow`, `run_flow`, ...) -- [references/mcp.md](references/mcp.md)
- **The `celigo` CLI** -- [references/cli.md](references/cli.md)

Planning and checking what already exists only read the account. Creating or changing a resource, enabling a flow, running it, and retrying or resolving its errors all write to the account or to the connected systems. The two surfaces differ most on writes -- which fields can be changed on their own, and whether the read-modify-write of a full update is done for you -- so follow your reference there.

## What Starts a Flow

Flows **start themselves** -- this is the biggest thing that separates them from APIs (invoked by an HTTP caller) and tools (invoked by a consumer). Every flow begins with one or more page generators, of two kinds:
