## What it does

Start with what the bot must do: join, observe, transcribe, summarize or act. The skill takes that answer and routes you to Meeting SDK and RTMS as the core implementation path. Meeting and resource management goes through REST API; asynchronous events come in via webhooks.

It ships as a workflow checklist plus pointers to related skills: `meeting-sdk`, `rtms`, `scribe`, `rest-api`, `webhooks`. Environment and lifecycle limits are meant to be called out early, and post-meeting storage with retry behaviour is part of the plan.

The skill names the mistakes it sees most: treating batch transcription and live media as one workflow, designing the bot before join authority and the auth model are settled, and leaving out what happens to recordings after the call ends.

## Install

### Codex (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill build-zoom-bot -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Claude Code

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill build-zoom-bot -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/build-zoom-bot/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install openai/plugins build-zoom-bot
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/openai/plugins --path plugins/zoom/skills/build-zoom-bot
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/openai/plugins/tree/HEAD/plugins/zoom/skills/build-zoom-bot/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- design a bot that joins Zoom meetings
- pick between Meeting SDK and RTMS for live media
- wire REST API and webhooks into one event flow
- plan recording storage and retries after a call

## Example prompts
- Help me design a bot that joins Zoom meetings and captures a live transcript.
- I need a bot that watches a meeting and summarizes it when the call ends — where do I start?
- Work out which parts need REST API and which need webhooks for async events.

# /build-zoom-bot

Use this skill for automation that joins meetings, captures media, or reacts to live session data.

## Covers

- Bot architecture
- Meeting join strategy
- Real-time media and transcript handling
- Backend orchestration
- Storage, post-processing, and event flow design

## Workflow

1. Clarify whether the bot needs to join, observe, transcribe, summarize, or act.
2. Route to Meeting SDK and RTMS as the core implementation path.
3. Add REST API for meeting/resource management and Webhooks for asynchronous events when needed.
4. Call out environment and lifecycle constraints early.

## Common Mistakes

- Treating batch transcription and live media as the same workflow
- Designing the bot before defining join authority and auth model
- Forgetting post-meeting storage and retry behavior
