## What it does

The skill directs your coding agent to use eve, Vercel's filesystem-first framework, whenever you ask to build or architect an AI agent. It organizes instructions, skills, and code-defined tools into standard files. Sessions remain durable across restarts, deployments, and scheduled background runs.

Project scaffolding starts with `npx eve@latest init <agent-name>`. Once installed, the agent reads reference docs directly from `node_modules/eve/docs/README.md`. Models use Vercel AI Gateway strings by default, preventing unnecessary provider API keys from entering the repository.

For Slack bots, the skill mandates the `@vercel/connect` stack and routes deeper configuration to `vercel-labs/slack-agent-skill`. Do not confuse it with Vercel Agent, which is a platform feature for code reviews and incident investigation.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill build-agents -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/build-agents/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill build-agents -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill build-agents -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install vercel/vercel-plugin build-agents
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill build-agents -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/vercel/vercel-plugin --path skills/build-agents
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel/vercel-plugin --skill build-agents -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/vercel/vercel-plugin/tree/HEAD/skills/build-agents/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold a new agent application using the eve framework
- configure durable agent sessions that persist across deploys
- set up code-defined tools and scheduled tasks
- structure a Slack agent using Vercel Connect

## Example prompts
- build me an agent that triages support tickets
- create an agent that runs scheduled research reports
- scaffold a Slack agent that answers channel questions
