# budget-pacing-monitor

The skill reads a live campaign's spend against a target curve and tells you whether it is on track, ahead, behind or stalled. Useful once a campaign is running and you have to decide about moving budget.

## What it does

It takes a campaign export and compares cumulative spend with the intended curve: even, front-loaded or back-loaded. You get a verdict (On-track, Ahead, Behind, Stalled), a percent-to-pace figure, the learning-phase status, an over- or under-delivery call with its driver (cap-limited, bid-throttled, low-volume, dayparting), and a reallocation trigger — fire or hold.

Fix the target curve before reading spend. Skip that and the skill falls back to an even curve, so the verdict measures against that and not your plan. Inside learning phase it refuses to fire the reallocation trigger: editing budget or settings resets learning, and the pace signal turns into noise. That is a reason to check campaign status before touching money.

Input comes from your own account — a report export from the native ad manager. No ad-platform API is required. The skill records spend to a local ledger via `ledger.py` so the delta between checks is computed rather than eyeballed. You need the budget, the flight window and spend by day; without an export it asks for one instead of estimating from a screenshot. The summary lands under `memory/ad/budget-pacing-monitor/`.

This is not initial budget allocation and not bid-strategy selection — those belong to `budget-optimizer` and `bid-strategy-planner`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill budget-pacing-monitor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill budget-pacing-monitor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill budget-pacing-monitor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills budget-pacing-monitor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill budget-pacing-monitor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --path ad/scale/budget-pacing-monitor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/budget-pacing-monitor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill budget-pacing-monitor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- check whether a campaign will spend its budget by the end of the flight
- catch over-delivery when the daily cap is hit by noon
- separate a real shortfall from learning-phase noise
- find why spend stalled mid-flight
- decide whether it is time to move budget between campaigns

## Example prompts
- Check pacing on Campaign X — daily budget is $200, we're 9 days into a 30-day flight. Am I on track?
- Spend spiked on the prospecting set two days ago and the daily cap is getting hit by noon — over-delivering?
- This campaign has spent 30% of budget with 60% of the flight gone — is it under-delivering, and should I move budget?
