## What it does

This skill sets up Go TUI applications following the Elm architecture. It splits code across dedicated files so `main.go` stays tiny at roughly 21 lines, while mouse and keyboard inputs live in separate handlers. Files stay modular with a recommended limit under 500 lines and a hard cap at 800 lines.

Layout guidance centers on preventing rendering glitches. Panels scale using weights rather than static pixels. Height calculations subtract 2 rows for panel borders before rendering, and text gets truncated to `panelWidth - 4` to stop accidental line wrapping. Mouse hit detection adjusts dynamically: side-by-side layouts read X coordinates, while stacked layouts switch to Y coordinates.

The included templates bundle visual physics effects, including metaballs and wave distortions. Configuration relies on YAML with hot-reloading. Setting an explicit `Height()` on bordered Lipgloss panels breaks layout alignment; the skill instead pads content lines with empty strings to match panel dimensions.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GGPrompts/TFE --skill bubbletea -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/bubbletea/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/bubbletea/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GGPrompts/TFE --skill bubbletea -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/bubbletea/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GGPrompts/TFE --skill bubbletea -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/bubbletea/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install GGPrompts/TFE bubbletea
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/bubbletea/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GGPrompts/TFE --skill bubbletea -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/GGPrompts/TFE --path .claude/skills/bubbletea
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/bubbletea/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GGPrompts/TFE --skill bubbletea -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- structure a Go terminal app following the Elm architecture
- calculate proportional dual-pane panel layouts without broken borders
- handle mouse click coordinates across horizontal and vertical layouts
- integrate physics-based effects like metaballs into a terminal UI

## Example prompts
- Create a dual-pane Go TUI layout with Lipgloss styles and YAML config
- Fix the text wrapping bug in the bordered preview panel
- Implement mouse click detection to switch focus between left and right panes

# Bubbletea TUI Development

Production-ready skill for building beautiful terminal user interfaces with Go, Bubbletea, and Lipgloss.

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:
- Creating new TUI applications with Go
- Adding Bubbletea components to existing apps
- Fixing layout/rendering issues (borders, alignment, overflow)
- Implementing mouse/keyboard interactions
- Building dual-pane or multi-panel layouts
- Adding visual effects (metaballs, waves, rainbow text)
- Troubleshooting TUI rendering problems

## Core Principles

**CRITICAL**: Before implementing ANY layout, consult `references/golden-rules.md` for the 4 Golden Rules. These rules prevent the most common and frustrating TUI layout bugs.

### The 4 Golden Rules (Summary)

1. **Always Account for Borders** - Subtract 2 from height calculations BEFORE rendering panels
2. **Never Auto-Wrap in Bordered Panels** - Always truncate text explicitly
3. **Match Mouse Detection to Layout** - Use X coords for horizontal, Y coords for vertical
4. **Use Weights, Not Pixels** - Proportional layouts scale perfectly

Full details and examples in `references/golden-rules.md`.

## Creating New Projects

This project includes a production-ready template system. When this skill is bundled with a new project (via `new_project.sh`), use the existing template structure as the starting point.

### Project Structure

All new projects follow this architecture:
```
your-app/
├── main.go              # Entry point (minimal, ~21 lines)
├── types.go             # Type definitions, structs, enums
├── model.go             # Model initialization & layout calculation
├── update.go            # Message dispatcher
├── update_keyboard.go   # Keyboard handling
├── update_mouse.go      # Mouse handling
├── view.go              # View rendering & layouts
├── styles.go            # Lipgloss style definitions
├── config.go            # Configuration management
└── .claude/skills/bubbletea/  # This skill (bundled)
```

### Architecture Guidelines

- Keep `main.go` minimal (entry point only, ~21 lines)
- All types in `types.go` (structs, enums, constants)
- Separate keyboard and mouse handling into dedicated files
- One file, one responsibility
- Maximum file size: 800 lines (ideally <500)
- Configuration via YAML with hot-reload support
