# browser-use-to-stagehand

Converts browser-use (Python) browser-automation scripts into Stagehand v3 (TypeScript) on Browserbase. Useful when an opaque agent loop should become inspectable code.

## What it does

The skill takes a browser-use script and rewrites it for Stagehand v3. The idea behind it: browser-use lets the model decide every action, while Stagehand lets you pick where AI is actually needed. So the migration is a refactor with judgement, not a line-by-line swap.

First it checks whether the file is migratable at all. If browser-use runs as an MCP server, there is no Stagehand equivalent, and the skill flags it as out of scope. If the browser-use call sits inside a larger app, only that surface gets converted and the surrounding glue stays. Then it inventories the script: tasks, model, browser config, output schemas, secrets, guardrails, custom actions. Each step gets a determinism level — a known URL, an on-page action, a data read, or an agent call.

The skill itself runs on Read, Write, Edit, Grep and Bash, so there is no install step. The generated code needs Node 18+, `@browserbasehq/stagehand` (v3) and `zod`, plus `BROWSERBASE_API_KEY`, `BROWSERBASE_PROJECT_ID` and a model-provider key such as `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`. Without those the script will not run. Check the version too: the mappings are a snapshot against `@browserbasehq/stagehand` 3.6.x, so on a different major the live docs win — worth verifying signatures before you run anything.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add browserbase/skills --skill browser-use-to-stagehand -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add browserbase/skills --skill browser-use-to-stagehand -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add browserbase/skills --skill browser-use-to-stagehand -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install browserbase/skills browser-use-to-stagehand
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add browserbase/skills --skill browser-use-to-stagehand -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/browserbase/skills --path skills/browser-use-to-stagehand
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/browser-use-to-stagehand/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add browserbase/skills --skill browser-use-to-stagehand -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- port a browser-use script to TypeScript without rewriting it by hand
- replace an opaque agent loop with step-by-step code
- decide between `agent()` and `act`/`extract`/`observe` per step
- inventory a browser-use script for tasks, models and guardrails
- move browser automation onto Browserbase

## Example prompts
- Port this browser-use script to Stagehand v3 on Browserbase
- Inventory `agent.py`: which steps can run without AI?
- Rewrite `Agent(task=...)` as `act` and `extract` with a zod schema

# browser-use → Stagehand on Browserbase (`/browser-use-to-stagehand`)

Convert a browser-use (Python) script into an idiomatic **Stagehand v3 (TypeScript)** script on
**Browserbase**, choosing the right level of determinism at each step rather than producing a
one-to-one agentic copy.

**Core principle:** browser-use is agentic-by-default (the LLM decides every action). Stagehand
lets you choose how much AI to use. A good migration replaces opaque agent loops with an
inspectable, mostly-deterministic pipeline — using AI only where the page is genuinely
unpredictable. This is a refactor with judgment, not a transpile.

> **Source of truth & versions.** This skill's durable value is the *judgment* — the determinism
> spectrum and the decompose-vs-agent decision — not the API specifics, which drift every release.
> The code mappings here are a **snapshot validated against `@browserbasehq/stagehand` 3.6.x and
> browser-use 0.13.x (2026-06)**. On any conflict, the **live docs win** — always verify against the
