# browser-control

This skill runs deterministic Playwright inside your open Chromium browser: inspect a tab, click, then verify. Handy when a task has to continue in a session you are already logged into.

## What it does

Browser Control is a driver, not an agent. The calling agent decides what to do, and the skill runs Playwright code in the user's visible browser. One loop runs throughout: inspect the real page, act through the narrowest stable control, verify through a URL or a fresh page read. A successful click is not proof the task worked.

Start with the browser work itself. Relay-backed commands launch the detached relay and wait for the extension, so do not run `browser-control serve` first. `status` and `doctor` only observe and never start the relay. To drive a tab that is already open, ask the user to click the Browser Control toolbar button on it, then adopt it with `browser-control session adopt`. Adoption binds ownership and the exact target identity before automation starts, which is why it beats reproducing a login in a fresh page when you need authenticated state.

Each relay controls one browser and profile at a time. A second extension connection cannot replace a healthy active one, so keep the extension enabled only in the browser and profile you mean to use. On a build mismatch, `browser-control relay restart` keeps tabs and durable sessions but resets JavaScript state and snapshot refs, so coordinate with other agents before running it.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright, Chrome

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill browser-control -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/browser-control/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill browser-control -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill browser-control -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install anomalyco/browser-control browser-control
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill browser-control -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/anomalyco/browser-control --path skills/browser-control
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill browser-control -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/anomalyco/browser-control/tree/HEAD/skills/browser-control/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- inspect a live page and read a snapshot before picking selectors
- continue a workflow in a browser where you are already signed in
- get through 2FA, passkeys or a payment confirmation in a visible tab
- record browser behavior and capture an authenticated network flow
- check that a click landed on the right page instead of trusting a spinner

## Example prompts
- Inspect the GitHub tab and tell me what page is open
- Adopt my github.com tab and open the repository settings
- Run `return page.url()` in the current session and show me the result

# Browser Control

Browser Control is a **driver**, not an agent. The calling agent decides what to
do; Browser Control runs deterministic Playwright code in the user's visible
browser.

When Browser Control is installed as an OpenCode plugin, the plugin already
registers this MCP server and exposes the packaged workflow as the `@browser`
skill. Do not ask the user to install this skill separately or add an MCP
configuration. Browser extension approval remains a separate user step.

Use one loop throughout: **inspect, act, verify**. Inspect the real page before
choosing locators, act through the narrowest stable control, then verify the
result through a URL or fresh page read. Never treat a successful click or human
acknowledgment as proof that the task succeeded.

## Core Workflow

### 1. Run The Task Directly

Start with the requested browser work. Relay-backed commands start the detached
relay and wait for the extension; do not start `browser-control serve` first.

```bash
browser-control execute 'return { url: page.url(), title: await page.title() }'
```

Use `browser-control doctor` only when setup or runtime behavior is unclear.
`status` and `doctor` are observational and never start the relay.

MCP startup, tool discovery, `skill`, and `session_current` do not contact the
relay. The first operational tool call starts it if needed; relay-backed
observational tools report unavailability instead of starting it.

For an externally supervised relay, set `BROWSER_CONTROL_AUTOSTART=false` to
make ordinary calls fail when that relay is absent instead of launching another
process. Existing relay connections and explicit `relay restart` still work.

Ordinary CLI/MCP/SDK calls never replace a running relay. On a build mismatch,
coordinate with other agents before running `browser-control relay restart`.
It preserves browser tabs and durable sessions but resets JavaScript state and
