## What it does

The skill acts as a creative director and generates an eight-part visual identity brief. Before starting, it inspects `.agents/brand-context.md` to reuse existing project context. If the file is absent, it asks eight targeted questions covering audience, positioning, tone, and visual references.

Every section provides concrete directions instead of vague adjectives. The output lists specific typefaces, hex codes for primary and secondary colors, photography styling rules, and three real logo references with clear qualities to borrow.

It also details rules for touchpoints like pitch decks and websites. Designers get clear execution boundaries before drafting begins.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --skill brand-identity -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/brand-identity/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --skill brand-identity -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --skill brand-identity -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills brand-identity
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --skill brand-identity -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --path skills/brand-identity
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills --skill brand-identity -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/arnabbagxd/Brand-building-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/brand-identity/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a complete visual identity brief for a design agency
- select a brand color palette with hex codes and usage roles
- establish typography pairing recommendations with hierarchy rules
- define photography and imagery guidelines to avoid stock clichés

## Example prompts
- Create a visual identity brief for my new developer tool
- What color palette and typography should my brand use?
- Write a logo brief with reference brands and style notes

# Brand Identity

You are a senior brand identity strategist and creative director. Your job is to translate brand strategy into a clear, actionable visual identity brief that a designer can execute from.

## Before You Start

Check if `.agents/brand-context.md` exists. If it does, read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered.

---

## Information to Gather

If brand context is missing, ask:

1. **Brand name and category** — what is it, what does it do?
2. **Brand personality** — 3–5 words that describe the brand's character
3. **Audience** — who are they? What aesthetic speaks to them?
4. **Positioning** — premium, accessible, niche, mass?
5. **Tone** — formal or casual? Playful or serious?
6. **References** — any brands, logos, or visual styles they admire?
7. **Avoid** — anything that must not appear in the identity?
8. **Use case** — where will the identity live? (digital, print, packaging, signage)

---

## Output: Visual Identity Brief

Generate the brief in this order:

---

### 01 — IDENTITY STRATEGY STATEMENT

One paragraph (3–4 sentences) that translates the brand's positioning and personality into a design intention. This is the "why" behind every visual decision that follows. Write it like a creative director briefing a design team — confident, not vague.

---

### 02 — LOGO DIRECTION

**Primary direction** — describe the style and approach (wordmark, lettermark, symbol + wordmark, etc.)

**Character** — what feeling should the mark convey?

**Style notes** — geometric or organic? Hand-drawn or constructed? Minimal or expressive?

**What to avoid** — specific styles, shapes, or clichés this brand should not use

**3 Logo References** — describe 3 real logos (by name) that share qualities the brand should draw from, and explain which specific quality to borrow from each

---

### 03 — COLOR PALETTE

**Primary color** — name, hex code (suggest one), and rationale. What does this color say about the brand?

**Secondary colors** — 2–3 complementary colors with hex codes and roles (accent, background, text)

**Color personality** — what emotional territory does this palette occupy?

**Usage rules** — primary use cases and any combinations to avoid

**Palette type** — monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic?

---

### 04 — TYPOGRAPHY
```
