# playwright

A Playwright skill that guides the agent through writing end-to-end tests: locators, auto-wait, cross-browser runs. Useful when user flows need test coverage.

## What it does

The skill hands the agent a Playwright reference: test structure, `beforeEach` and `afterAll` hooks, locator strategies, Page Object Model. Role-based locators get the most attention — `getByRole`, `getByLabel`, `getByTestId` survive markup changes better than CSS selectors.

A `playwright.config.ts` walkthrough covers parallel runs, retries, and projects for Chromium, Firefox, WebKit plus mobile Chrome. Network interception and debugging with UI mode and the trace viewer are in there too. Content loads in stages: a short summary first, the full text on demand.

The skill does not run your tests. Node.js and installed browsers are on you — `npx playwright install`. Skip that step and the run dies before the first assertion.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill playwright -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/playwright/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill playwright -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill playwright -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills playwright
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/playwright/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill playwright -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/javascript/testing/playwright
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/playwright/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill playwright -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills/tree/HEAD/toolchains/javascript/testing/playwright/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write an E2E test for the login flow
- swap a brittle CSS selector for a stable locator
- run one scenario across Chromium, Firefox and WebKit
- set up retries and parallel workers in the config
- trace a failing test in the trace viewer

## Example prompts
- Write an E2E test for checkout in `checkout.spec.ts` using role-based locators.
- Move the login tests into a Page Object at `pages/LoginPage.ts`.
- Add a mobile Chrome project and failure screenshots to `playwright.config.ts`.
