# dispatching-parallel-agents

Hands each independent failure to its own agent and runs them at the same time. Useful when tests break in different files for different reasons.

## What it does

The skill lays out a workflow for several unrelated failures: group them into domains, give each agent a narrow task, dispatch them concurrently, then read the summaries and integrate. One agent, one domain, one clear outcome. Scopes never overlap and no state is shared.

Four references ship with it. `coordination-patterns.md` covers dispatch strategies and integration, `agent-prompts.md` has prompt templates and common mistakes, `examples.md` walks through real scenarios, and `troubleshooting.md` deals with conflicts and verification. There is also a decision tree: are the failures related, and can the agents work at once.

Worth reaching for at three or more independent problems. If the failures are related, if agents would edit the same files, or if you have not worked out what is broken yet, the skill tells you to send a single agent first. Otherwise you get merge conflicts and sort them out by hand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill dispatching-parallel-agents -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill dispatching-parallel-agents -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill dispatching-parallel-agents -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills dispatching-parallel-agents
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill dispatching-parallel-agents -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path universal/collaboration/dispatching-parallel-agents
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/dispatching-parallel-agents/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill dispatching-parallel-agents -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- split several failing tests across separate agents
- fix unrelated subsystems in one pass
- keep agents from editing the same files
- integrate parallel agent summaries without conflicts
- spot when parallel dispatch is the wrong call

## Example prompts
- Three test files are failing for different reasons — dispatch one agent per file
- Run agents in parallel on `agent-tool-abort.test.ts` and `batch-completion-behavior.test.ts`
- Failures sit in separate subsystems; check whether they are independent and parallelize

# Dispatching Parallel Agents

## Overview

When multiple unrelated failures occur (different test files, different subsystems, different bugs), investigating them sequentially wastes time. Each investigation is independent and can happen in parallel.

**Core principle:** Dispatch one agent per independent problem domain. Let them work concurrently.

## When to Use This Skill

Activate this skill when facing:
- **3+ test files failing** with different root causes
- **Multiple subsystems broken** independently
- **Each problem is self-contained** - can be understood without context from others
- **No shared state** between investigations
- **Clear domain boundaries** - fixing one won't affect others

**Don't use when:**
- Failures are related (fix one might fix others)
- Need to understand full system state first
- Agents would interfere with each other (editing same files)
- Exploratory debugging (don't know what's broken yet)

## The Iron Law

```
One agent, one problem domain, one clear outcome.
Never overlap scopes. Never share state. Always integrate consciously.
```

## Core Principles

### Independence is Key
Problems must be truly independent - no shared files, no related root causes, no dependencies between fixes.

### Focus Over Breadth
Each agent gets narrow scope: one test file, one subsystem, one clear goal. Broad tasks lead to confusion.

### Clear Output Required
Every agent must return a summary: what was found, what was fixed, what changed. No silent fixes.

### Conscious Integration
