## What it does

The skill creates a skeletal article outline based on search engine results. It identifies user intent, runs WebSearch across snippets, People Also Ask, and AI Overviews, and inspects top competitor pages using WebFetch. The resulting plan includes H2 and H3 heading hierarchies, answer-first opener prompts, and internal linking zones.

Unlike `blog-brief`, this tool skips in-depth statistics gathering and full competitive audits. It relies on sibling repository directories, expecting references in `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../blog/references` and templates in `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../blog/templates`. The outline is saved directly to `outlines/[slug]-outline.md` for immediate use by writing commands.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --skill blog-outline -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/blog-outline/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --skill blog-outline -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --skill blog-outline -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install AgriciDaniel/claude-blog blog-outline
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --skill blog-outline -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --path skills/blog-outline
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add AgriciDaniel/claude-blog --skill blog-outline -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-blog/tree/HEAD/skills/blog-outline/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- generate an article outline with H2 and H3 hierarchy
- identify competitor content gaps from search results
- assign target word counts per section
- mark positions for charts, images, and FAQ items

## Example prompts
- Generate an outline for an article on PostgreSQL setup
- Create a blog skeleton for the keyword "best headless cms"

# Blog Outline Generator: SERP-Informed Structure Planning

Bundled paths below use host Markdown substitution of `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}`;
it is not an exported shell variable. Resolve them before execution, quote
paths, and refuse nonabsolute overrides. Pass `blog_reference_root` resolved
from `${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../blog/references`, `blog_template_root` from
`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/../blog/templates`, and needed sibling roots to agents.
Read the main reference `orchestration-details.md` before loading project
context; pass only its helper-fenced output to downstream agents.

Generates skeletal blog post outlines informed by SERP analysis. A lighter
alternative to a full content brief - produces heading hierarchy, section
targets, and content gap notes without deep statistics research or full
competitive analysis.

## Cross-reference

For evidence-led topical-relevance and content-planning prompts upstream of outlining, see `/blog flow find`. The blog-post-outline-prompt under `/blog flow optimize` is a complementary structural reference.

## Workflow

### Step 1: Topic & Intent

Gather from the user:
1. **Topic or target keyword** (required)
2. **Target keyword** - the exact phrase to rank for (if different from topic)
3. **Search intent** - Informational, commercial, or transactional

If only a topic is given, infer the keyword and intent from context.

### Step 2: SERP Analysis

Use WebSearch to analyze the full visible search surface for the target keyword, not just classic blue links:

1. Search for the target keyword
2. Scan classic top results plus AI Overviews, AI Mode where available, People Also Ask, featured snippets, and visible citation/source surfaces.
3. For each of the top 5 classic results, note:
   - **Heading structure** - H2/H3 topics covered
   - **Content length** - Approximate word count
   - **Visual elements** - Charts, images, videos, infographics
   - **Questions** - Any FAQ sections, People Also Ask coverage, or AI Overview/AI Mode prompt variants
   - **Unique angles** - What makes each result distinct
   - **Gaps** - What's missing or weak

4. For AI Overviews, AI Mode, and other citation surfaces, record cited publishers, repeated entities, answer formats, and sources that do not overlap with the classic top 5.
