## What it does

The skill provides automation workflows built on the Blender Python API (`bpy`). It exports 3D assets to binary `.glb` files with Draco geometry compression. The instructions define quantization settings for mesh positions, normals, and UV coordinates.

It includes headless batch scripts that run `.blend` files through the CLI using `--background`. Meshes are simplified with the `Decimate` modifier, and scene materials are baked into single image textures using the Cycles engine. The target budget aims under 5 MB per model and fewer than 50k triangles.

Running these headless scripts requires an installed Blender binary accessible from your terminal. If Blender is missing from your system path, automated batch exports will immediately fail.

## Requirements
- Works with: Blender

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill blender-web-pipeline -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/blender-web-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/blender-web-pipeline/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill blender-web-pipeline -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/blender-web-pipeline/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill blender-web-pipeline -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/blender-web-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install freshtechbro/claudedesignskills blender-web-pipeline
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/blender-web-pipeline/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --path plugins/bundles/authoring-motion/skills/blender-web-pipeline
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/blender-web-pipeline/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill blender-web-pipeline -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- export blend files to web-optimized binary glb with Draco compression
- batch process multiple 3D assets using headless Blender CLI commands
- reduce polygon counts with the Decimate modifier for real-time web rendering
- bake complex material graphs into a single texture map using Cycles

## Example prompts
- Write a bpy script to batch export all blend files to glb with level 6 Draco compression
- Optimize this mesh using the Decimate modifier for Three.js
- Show me how to bake object textures into a 1024x1024 map using Cycles

# Blender Web Pipeline

## Overview

Blender Web Pipeline skill provides workflows for exporting 3D models and animations from Blender to web-optimized formats (primarily glTF 2.0). It covers Python scripting for batch processing, optimization techniques for web performance, and integration with web 3D libraries like Three.js and Babylon.js.

**When to use this skill:**
- Exporting Blender models for web applications
- Batch processing multiple 3D assets
- Optimizing file sizes for web delivery
- Automating repetitive Blender tasks
- Creating production pipelines for 3D web content
- Converting legacy formats to glTF

**Key capabilities:**
- glTF 2.0 export with optimization
- Python (bpy) automation scripts
- Texture baking and compression
- LOD (Level of Detail) generation
- Batch processing workflows
- Material and lighting optimization for web

## Core Concepts

### glTF 2.0 Format

**Why glTF for Web:**
- Industry-standard 3D format for web
- Efficient binary encoding (.glb)
- PBR materials support
- Animation and skinning
- Extensible with custom data
- Wide library support (Three.js, Babylon.js, etc.)

**glTF vs GLB:**
```
.gltf = JSON + external .bin + external textures
.glb  = Single binary file (recommended for web)
```

### Blender Python API (bpy)

**Access Blender data and operations via Python:**

```python
import bpy
# Access scene data
scene = bpy.context.scene
objects = bpy.data.objects
# Modify objects
obj = bpy.data.objects['Cube']
obj.location = (0, 0, 1)
obj.scale = (2, 2, 2)
# Export glTF
bpy.ops.export_scene.gltf(
    filepath='/path/to/model.glb',
    export_format='GLB'
)
```

### Web Optimization Goals

**Target Metrics:**
- File size: <5 MB per model (ideal <1 MB)
- Polygon count: <50k triangles for real-time
- Texture resolution: 2048x2048 max (1024x1024 preferred)
- Draw calls: Minimize via texture atlases
- Load time: <2 seconds on average connection

## Common Patterns

### 1. Basic glTF Export (Manual)

```python
# Blender Python Console or script
import bpy
````
