## What it does

The skill lays out how the agent writes Python that the Blender MCP runs. Inside are a decision tree by geometry type and ready recipes: a hard-surface stack of Cube, Bevel and Subdivision, Boolean cuts, Array along a curve, block-out from primitives. Two failure points get their own sections — axis orientation for elongated objects and joining parts without visible seams.

For joins, the skill advises overlapping adjacent primitives by 5–15 mm and calling `shade_smooth()` on rounded parts. It also shows the anti-pattern where pieces abut exactly, which leaves a line at the junction. For a clean join between same-material parts it suggests Boolean Union.

Everything runs through the Blender MCP server: `allowed-tools` lists `Read`, `Bash` and tools such as `mcp__blender__execute_blender_code`, `mcp__blender__get_scene_info`, `mcp__blender__render_viewport_to_path`, `mcp__blender__search_api_docs`. Before the first call you read `../text-to-blender/references/mcp-backends.md` and pick a backend; the skill says to prefer the official MCP and keep that choice for the whole task. Sculpting is out of scope — sculpt mode strokes are gestural, not text-driven.

## Requirements
- Works with: Blender

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --skill blender-modeling -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/blender-modeling/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --skill blender-modeling -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --skill blender-modeling -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install RobLe3/cc-blender-skill blender-modeling
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --skill blender-modeling -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --path plugin/skills/blender-modeling
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add RobLe3/cc-blender-skill --skill blender-modeling -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/RobLe3/cc-blender-skill/tree/HEAD/plugin/skills/blender-modeling/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a sword or chair from primitives without seams at the joins
- cut a hole in existing geometry with a Boolean modifier
- place columns or tiles along a curve with the Array modifier
- stack Bevel and Subdivision for hard-surface shapes
- block out a scene from cubes and spheres before detail work

## Example prompts
- make a 3D sword: blade, guard, grip and pommel
- carve a hole in this part with a Boolean
- array the columns along a curve

name: blender-modeling
description: Create and edit 3D meshes in Blender — primitives, hard-surface modeling, mesh operators, modifier stacks (Bevel, Subdivision, Boolean, Mirror, Array, Solidify), bmesh-level edits, retopology basics. Use whenever the user asks to "make/model/create/build a 3D object", "shape/sculpt this", "add a cube/sphere/cylinder/etc.", "extrude/inset/bevel this face", "add a modifier", or any geometry-creation request that isn't a wireframe trace. Make sure to use this skill even if the user does not say "model" — also covers "make a sword", "build a chair", "add a door", "carve out a hole". Pairs with blender-materials for look-dev and blender-pro-workflow for full pipelines.

## MCP backend

Use when: Any geometry creation, mesh edit, or modifier stack work in Blender. Not for wireframe → 3D conversion (use wireframe-to-3d) and not for sculpting strokes (Blender's sculpt mode is gestural, not text-driven).

Before the first Blender call, read [../text-to-blender/references/mcp-backends.md](../text-to-blender/references/mcp-backends.md). Prefer official MCP for shared capabilities; preserve the selected backend for the whole task. Tool names in recipes are client/legacy examples: map them through that reference and its agent-host guide.
# Blender Modeling

Create geometry in Blender via natural language. You emit Python code that the Blender MCP executes; the patterns below cover the common 80%.

## Decision tree

```
What kind of geometry?
├── Hard-surface (vehicles, weapons, architecture, props)
│   → Cube primitive + Bevel + SubSurf modifier stack
│   → See "Hard-surface stack" recipe
│
├── Organic (characters, creatures, plants — block-out only)
│   → Ico Sphere + sculpting (or Voxel Remesh for shape)
│   → For sculpting strokes, redirect: it's gestural, not text-driven
│
├── Architectural / repeating (fences, columns, tile)
│   → Plane/Cube + Array modifier (+ Curve modifier for paths)
│   → See "Array along curve" recipe
