## What it does

The skill covers Blaxel, a platform that gives AI agents their own compute environments. The main workflow: create a sandbox from a public image (`blaxel/node:latest`, `blaxel/nextjs:latest`, `blaxel/py-app:latest` and others), write files into it, install dependencies, run commands and expose a preview URL. Ports are declared at creation time and cannot be added later; 80, 443 and 8080 are reserved.

Inside is a reference for the TypeScript SDK (`@blaxel/core`) and the Python one (`blaxel`), plus the `bl` CLI. Authentication resolves in priority order: a logged-in CLI first, then `BL_WORKSPACE` and `BL_API_KEY` from a `.env` file, then system environment variables, then `~/.blaxel/config.yaml`. For local work `bl login YOUR-WORKSPACE` is enough; CI setups export the variables instead.

One detail that trips people up: a dev server has to bind to `0.0.0.0`, not `localhost`, or the preview URL will not reach it. The skill also pushes `createIfNotExists` over a get-then-create pair, because a deleted sandbox lingers in `TERMINATED` state for a few minutes and a plain `get` returns a dead instance whose gateway fails. Recent SDK builds wait out the `DELETING` window; on older ones the call can throw after three attempts.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add blaxel-ai/agent-skills --skill blaxel-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/blaxel-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add blaxel-ai/agent-skills --skill blaxel-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add blaxel-ai/agent-skills --skill blaxel-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install blaxel-ai/agent-skills blaxel-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add blaxel-ai/agent-skills --skill blaxel-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/blaxel-ai/agent-skills --path skills/blaxel-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add blaxel-ai/agent-skills --skill blaxel-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/blaxel-ai/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/blaxel-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- spin up an isolated microVM sandbox and run code in it
- start a dev server and get a public preview link
- build a reusable sandbox template from a custom Docker image
- deploy an AI agent, MCP server or batch job as a serverless endpoint
- share one filesystem across several sandboxes with Agent Drives

## Example prompts
- Create a Blaxel sandbox from blaxel/node:latest with port 3000 and run npm run dev in it
- Write the project files into /app, install dependencies and give me the preview URL on port 3000
- Deploy this agent to Blaxel as a serverless endpoint

description: Use when creating cloud sandboxes (microVMs) to run code, start dev servers, and generate live preview URLs. Also covers deploying AI agents, MCP servers, batch jobs, and Agent Drives (shared filesystems) on Blaxel's serverless infrastructure. Reach for this skill when you need isolated compute environments, real-time app previews, shared file storage across sandboxes, or to deploy agentic workloads.

# Blaxel Skill Reference

## What is Blaxel

Blaxel (https://blaxel.ai) is a cloud platform that gives AI agents their own compute environments. Its flagship product is perpetual sandboxes: instant-launching microVMs that resume from standby in under 25ms and scale to zero after a few seconds of inactivity.

You use Blaxel primarily to:
- Spin up a sandbox, install dependencies, run a dev server, and expose a live preview URL
- Build and deploy sandbox templates (custom Docker images) for reusable environments
- Deploy AI agents, MCP servers, and batch jobs as serverless endpoints

SDKs: TypeScript (`@blaxel/core`) and Python (`blaxel`)
CLI: `bl` (install from https://docs.blaxel.ai/cli-reference/introduction)
Docs: https://docs.blaxel.ai

## Authentication

The SDK authenticates using these sources in priority order:

1. Blaxel CLI, when logged in
2. Environment variables in `.env` file (`BL_WORKSPACE`, `BL_API_KEY`)
3. System environment variables
4. Blaxel configuration file (`~/.blaxel/config.yaml`)

Log in locally (recommended for development):
```shell
bl login YOUR-WORKSPACE
```

Or set environment variables (for remote/CI environments):
```shell
export BL_WORKSPACE=your-workspace
export BL_API_KEY=your-api-key
```

When running on Blaxel itself, authentication is automatic.

## Sandbox workflow (primary use case)

This is the most common workflow: create a sandbox, run commands in it, and get a preview URL.

### Step 1: Create a sandbox

Use a public image from the Blaxel Hub (https://github.com/blaxel-ai/sandbox/tree/main/hub):
- `blaxel/base-image:latest` — minimal Linux
- `blaxel/node:latest` — Node.js
- `blaxel/nextjs:latest` — Next.js
- `blaxel/vite:latest` — Vite
- `blaxel/expo:latest` — Expo (React Native)
- `blaxel/py-app:latest` — Python

Or use a custom template image you deployed yourself.

Declare the ports you need at creation time. Ports cannot be added after creation. Ports 80, 443, and 8080 are reserved.

```typescript
import { SandboxInstance } from "@blaxel/core";
````

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 2981a179b2b5d4e3 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
