## What it does

Birdview renders the system as a map where every block points back to a real place in the code instead of being guessed by the model. Before editing, the agent shows which modules and files are affected, what behavior is expected and which project constraints apply. The deliverable is an HTML page you review in the browser; JSON on its own does not count.

The skill defaults to `on-demand`: it activates when you name Birdview or ask for an architecture, boundary or constraint map. Ordinary coding and small fixes leave it dormant. If the project's instruction file explicitly sets `auto`, it runs before every code-changing task. An `off` project disables the foundation and map workflow unless you request it for the current task.

Architecture review has its own route. Asking to improve architecture, review module boundaries or find refactoring opportunities goes through `$birdview-review` in Codex or `/birdview-review` in Claude, and that route does not turn on project auto mode. Implementation, tests and project configuration stay untouched until you confirm the displayed plan — a rendered page, a passing check or silence is not approval. These are agent instructions, not enforced write interception.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/birdview/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/birdview/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/birdview/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/birdview/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Qiuner/birdview birdview
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/birdview/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Qiuner/birdview
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/birdview/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Qiuner/birdview/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- see which modules a change will touch before starting
- build an architecture map with links to source files
- collect project rules that apply to the current task
- review module boundaries and refactoring candidates
- get a full constraint inventory instead of a few examples

## Example prompts
- Show me the Birdview map for this project
- Which modules and files will this change affect? Prepare the change scope
- Review the module boundaries and suggest architecture improvements

description: Show evidence-linked architecture, constraints and change scope, or review architecture improvement opportunities. Ordinary coding does not activate Birdview without that opt-in.

# Birdview

[中文](SKILL.zh.md)

Show the system on an evidence-linked architecture map and highlight the modules AI plans to change before editing.

## Activation

Project `off` disables the foundation and map workflow unless explicitly requested for the current task. Installed project foundation rules remain applicable in `on-demand` even without skill activation; their canonical managed text is [foundation.txt](references/foundation.txt). For project setup, disabling or removal of managed rules, follow [modes.md](references/modes.md); do not start mapping merely to configure rules.

Birdview defaults to `on-demand`: activate when the user selects the skill, names Birdview, requests an architecture/constraint/change map, or requests architecture improvement through the review route below. Ordinary coding, small fixes and feature planning do not activate it by default. If the project host instruction file explicitly configures `auto`, activate before every code-changing task, including small edits, and planning that explicitly analyzes affected modules. Honor existing `auto` settings; `setup` preserves them. Honor `off` unless explicitly invoked for this task. Merely discussing the skill does not request a map. When active for authorized coding, reuse/update the map and declare affected modules before editing.

In Codex, use `/skills` to select Birdview or mention `$birdview`. For the separate environment audit, use `$birdview-compatibility`; it does not activate mapping. Claude Code exposes these installed skills as `/birdview` and `/birdview-compatibility`. Other hosts use their skill selector or an explicit request; do not assume they implement the same slash command. Invocation applies to the current task, not all future edits.

For mode changes/status, follow [modes.md](references/modes.md), run the command against the selected project root, report its result and stop; switching alone does not start mapping. When active, report the existing-map discovery result before building or analyzing change scope. These are agent instructions, not enforced write interception.
