## What it does

The skill hands your agent a single conversion pipeline. You point it at a folder or a list of files and pick a target format; it reads the source format from the extension and writes results into a `converted` subfolder unless you name another one. Files run in parallel, four workers by default, and every file comes back with a status: success or an error message.

Supported pairs live in a matrix covering DOCX, PDF, MD, HTML, XLSX and PPTX, and not every direction exists. Under the hood sits a Python class `DocumentConverter` with `convert` and `batch_convert`. Markdown to DOCX, PDF and HTML goes through `pandoc`, Markdown to PPTX through `marp`, Office files and PDF to Markdown through `markitdown`, PDF to DOCX through `pdf2docx`.

That is also the catch: `pandoc`, `marp`, `markitdown` and `pdf2docx` have to be present on the machine, or the matching converters fail. The skill depends on the `office-mcp` MCP server and its `batch_convert` tool — without it the agent cannot reach the pipeline. An unsupported pair is rejected with an error, so check the matrix before running this over a large folder.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill batch-convert -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/batch-convert/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/batch-convert/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill batch-convert -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/batch-convert/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill batch-convert -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/batch-convert/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install claude-office-skills/skills batch-convert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/batch-convert/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill batch-convert -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills --path batch-convert
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/batch-convert/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add claude-office-skills/skills --skill batch-convert -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/claude-office-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/batch-convert/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn a stack of PDFs into editable DOCX
- build PDF and HTML from a set of Markdown files
- pull the text out of Office documents into Markdown
- walk subfolders recursively and convert everything to one format
- get a per-file report of what converted and what failed

## Example prompts
- Convert all PDFs in this folder to Word documents
- Batch convert these markdown files to PDF and HTML
- Process all Office files and convert them to Markdown

# Batch Convert Skill

## Overview

This skill enables batch conversion of documents between multiple formats using a unified pipeline. Convert hundreds of files at once with consistent settings, automatic format detection, and parallel processing for maximum efficiency.

## How to Use

1. Specify the source folder or files
2. Choose target format(s)
3. Optionally configure conversion options
4. I'll process all files with progress tracking

**Example prompts:**
- "Convert all PDFs in this folder to Word documents"
- "Batch convert these markdown files to PDF and HTML"
- "Process all Office files and convert to Markdown"
- "Convert this folder of images to a single PDF"
